In my mind part of it will depend on how heavy the speakers need to lift and whether you will use a pair or a single speaker.

I like the EVs as personal monitors. I use a pair but a pair moves more air.

If I could only use one and my band was LOUD or if the speakers needed to be heard by the audience I may possibly prefer the Yamaha.

I like the EVs because I find them to be flat/accurate. I want a speaker that doesn't over accentuate certain frequencies. I want to have a good handle on what I am sending to the FOH. I have no control over how the sound guy EQs what I send. But for example, I never want to send a overly bright, tinny, or scooped feed because my monitor are muddy in the 100-200 hz range. It is important to give the desk a good base to work from.

Here is a review of both products. I did the EV review Tony did the Yamaha review.

Also, the EVs function very well as floor wedges which may enhance their bass response a little depending on how loud you are and the floor's character.

What sounds best overall for acoustic piano sounds, the dxr10 or the zxa1?

Funny, I just mentioned that in another post. I A/B'd them and thought piano sounded better in the ZXa1. But that doesn't mean everyone will, maybe you'll get some dissenters here. The DXR10 of course has more connectivity options and goes louder.

Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)

Never used the ZXa1, but I have a pair of DXR 10's up on poles, and the piano sound is amazing.
