Keyboard players AND my wallet, simultaneously!

Bought one of the B9s, and now I'll get one of those C9s as well. And as the video suggests, I'll find a way to use them together.

Very cool. As with their B9, I wish there was a way to turn off or bypass the on-board Leslie/rotary simulation, so that other, better Leslie/rotary sims- or REAL, LIVE Leslies, 'Vibes, etc.- could be used... If so, I'm sure that I would have already bought a B9 or C9 by now. For the time being, I'm doing pretty well with a Foxrox Octron, a Boss RT-20, and a Sustainiac Model C...

Ah, hell, you had to show me this, didn't you . . .

I could see using the Prog, Shimmer and Blimp sounds right away. The other sounds are fairly impressive, too, especially the (Jon) Lord (Deep) Purple sound, but I have the Organ family pretty well covered among my guitar synths. The Mello Flute was a real disappointment. Yes, the Strawberry Fields riff sounded very cool, and close enough for Rock & Roll, but the Mellotron was capable of much more majestic sounds.

For right around $200, I'll have to wait until after the holidays before I even think about any new toys for myself, but I'll keep this one in mind until then . . .

It sounds as close to an organ as I've heard a guitar get so far. Many pedals can't make claims like these as they just don't cut it (especially acoustic guitar imitators) and their sound is just in the mind of the user. There are keyboards that suck as far as their organ, horns, strings, piano, etc. settings go too. Although most of the good ones sound really good. Real pianos, organs, strings and horns will always sound better than keyboards with the right players playing them IMHO. Granted, there is always going to be a big difference as well in a real organ (and player) vs. a guitar player trying to make it sound like one via a pedal like these... :freak::crazy::hitt:

Pretty amazing, and well worth it, if only to raise anguished howls from the keyboard players.

Guitar solos last 30 seconds, the bass line lasts for the whole song.

If you think that sound like an organ you are all batshit crazy.

CEB you are quite correct.

<--- found this on another thread and this one really comes much closer to batshit crazy organ sounds IMHO...after all, it's the player that really makes the difference...

I think the keyboard guys are really worried about guitar pedals taking over LOL!!!

Personally, I plan on using this and the B9 in non-traditional ways, at least part of the time.

For example, I wonder what they'll sound like with wah, whammy, slide or even fretless playing...

Fretless in particular might sound exceptionally cool; tonewheel-esque gliss-bliss...

Depending on the frequency range of the thing, you might be able to run fretless bass through it. Failing all else, I would expect that you could play the 1st and 2nd strings, at least. I wonder how it would respond to fretless playing, or even string-bending? Would you get a glide/portamento sound, or does it just flip between notes, once you cross a certain threshold, like a synth set to Chromatic? Hm, I could see using a trick like that to get a sort of Philip Glass sound; dial up the Mello Flute, and wobble your strings just a bit. Almost as annoying as the real thing . . .

My main interest would be in running my 7-string through it. Run the guitar into a splitter box, send one channel to the C9 on Lord Purple, the other to a Big Muff, and reach for that Smoke On The Water riff. Oh, yes . . .

My first experiment will be to put the B9 behind an Epitome which has been set for the "18-string guitar" mode. Should sound pretty huge...

I also think that using either a B9 or C9 with a EHX RTG (or its equivalent) and some fuzz should render up some skittering wickedness along the lines of the background of Sabbath's "e5150" from Mob Rules.

Yeah, I'm still wondering how it'll deal with stacked Octave tones? I'd love to hear someone playing an electric 12-string through it, to hear what happens.

It's really about the limits of the DSP - I'm assuming it's a digital device - and how (or if) it will handle the unexpected.

You want wicked skittering, stuttering tones, I'm going to push the FM4 Filter Modeler on you again. Run the B9 or C9 through some of those LFO-driven Filter effects, and you'll get something much more interesting, and more musically useful, than the RTG would give you.

The RTG is a cheapie, so I'm not expecting much if I buy it. But I've also been looking at the Eathquaker Devices Arpanoid and Rainbow Machine. They're a bit more...structured and musical.

OTOH, the pure chaos of the RTG would appeal to my inner Glen Branca...

Well, waddya know. It turns out that the B9's (and most likely the C9's) Mod-knob does turn off the modulation when dialed all the way counter-clockwise, after all...:2thu:

Now get out there and do some Doors! :2thu:

:D:cool:

I've already been faking the keyboard-lines in "Gimme Some Lovin' " by Steve Winwood and the Spencer Davis Group for a few years now, among other things, such as "House of the Rising Son" and lots of jammy stuff (tha's righ', getcha jammies on)... ;)
