Mr. Nightime Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 My wife recorded the performance by Idina Menzel of "Silent Night" on the Today show this morning. This had to be one of the coolest versions I have ever heard. The feel was Gospel, and the chord substitutions were unexpected, surprising, and very refreshing. She showed the perfect amount of restraint on her vocal performance, sticking with the less is more philosophy, never once resorting to vocal gymnastics. So now I'm trying to find a copy of the arrangement. I've looked through Google and Bing, and cannot seem to find it. Any ideas where I can get this? I am willing to pay for a legal copy of the sheet music. "In the beginning, Adam had the blues, 'cause he was lonesome. So God helped him and created woman. Now everybody's got the blues." Dana. Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I prefer the Adele Dazeem version. She's wick-edly talented.
Lone Stranger Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 If you can post that recording somewhere, I can listen to it and pick out chords fairly easily. I have absolute pitch which does help. That doesn't help you for detailed notation though. PCLinuxOS user
Bobadohshe Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I bet if you PMed Bernmeister and told him you'd pay, you would get a 100% accurate transcription. Best ears I know of on this forum. Mr. Nightime Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 I could probably figure it out, I just haven't got time right now. I was looking to see if perhaps it was published somewhere. I don't need detailed notation. I'm a chart/ear player, not a sight reader. I will say that the version that was on the Today show was definitely live. Different than the studio cut. Much better IMHO. There was a Gospel feel on the Today show, where the studio cut was typical film-like production. "In the beginning, Adam had the blues, 'cause he was lonesome.
