Irie Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Hello folks, First time user on here, and I've just bought a Hammond SK1... I play guitar and keys in a band and after skimming through the owners manual, I'm having doubts that I will be able to connect my Roland FA-06 workstation to my SK1. I'm looking at rocking two manuals on stage so I can have a wide range of sounds to work with... I don't really know too much about the mechanical side of how this all works, so if you guys could give me some pointers, it would be greatly appreciated. I know you guys know a lot more than I do about this stuff.
RudyS Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Hi Irie, What exactly do you want to achieve with "linking the SK-1"? Here is some general info: You can use midi to trigger the sounds of your SK-1 from the keybed of your FA-06. To do this, you should connect the Midi-out of the FA-06, to the MIDI-in of your SK-1. Normally this should work directly, but I am not familiar with both boards. Now you will hear the sounds of the FA-06 together with the SK-1 if you play the FA-06. If it doesn't work, you should set the send and receiving midi channels of both keyboards on the same number. You can also reverse in and out, and then you can trigger sounds from the FA-06 with your SK-1. You probably need something like a "setup mode" were you can define which part (zone/register) of the keyboard is triggering internal or external sounds. Rudy
DanL Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Info in this thread, if you find my posts near the bottom. It's pretty straightforward, in a nutshell, whatever is plugged into the midi in on the SK1 becomes the "lower manual" by default. Whatever sound you have set up as the lower sound on the SK1 patch will be played from the FA. https://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/2612792/Question_for_the_midi_gurus_FC#Post2612792 Live: Nord Stage 3 Compact, Nord Wave 2, Viscount Legend Toys: Korg Kronos 2 88, Roland Fantom 08, Nord Lead A1,Roland FA08, Novation Ultranova, Moog LP www.echoesrocks.com
Irie Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 Thank you guys! Very helpful. Much appreciated! I have a wide range of sounds I use live with my band from organ to synth saws, and I want to designate all the organ sounds on the SK1 and split the Roland into a couple different sounds depending on what the song requires.
Irie Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 I just have one more question (I think)... What is the setup if I want both keyboards to play their own sound? I don't have any pedals at the moment or anything. I am kind of a midiot myself, and I'm not sure if I need to adjust which settings on the boards or anything..
