Dr88s Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 I was fortunate enough to pick up a used a ventilator (original model) here on KC classifieds. I used to think that my VR-09 had a good Leslie sim (at least compared to my old Korg m50) until I got this little pedal. Wow! It came with a one button remote which toggles between fast and slow. Because I don't play with the Vent settings at all (purely set-and-forget), I don't need it near me and I don't mind it being on the floor, so I am wondering if I still have to use the remote foot switch. Is the Vent robust enough to stand up to being stepped on regularly, or should I still be using the remote in order to save wear and tear on the pedal? Nord Stage 2 Compact, Yamaha MODX8
David Loving Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 It is OK as a foot switch. Check out the half-moon switch by Ashby Solutions. (edit) After I posted this I noticed in my avatar photo I have the vent on the floor as a foot switch. "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown."
CEB Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 I rack mounted mine because I am all about faster setups and tear downs and having as much prewired and ready to go as possible. I don't change my setting either. I never changed cabinets live. But the pedal is a well built stomp box. You can do this a dozen different ways. If you want to mount it in a rack with your mixer or other gear let us know and we will tell you where to go to make it easy. This is not at all where I was headed with the question, but simpler set ups are never a bad thing, and now I am intrigued. I have a freshly empty 2u rack bag and an unused 1u rack line mixer. Can I easily mount the vent in the one unit space remaining? Nord Stage 2 Compact, Yamaha MODX8
CEB Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Yes. If the rack is deeper than the mixer. You will need to put the vent behind the mixer so you have enough clearence. This will call for pictures from my photobucket. "It doesn't have to be difficult to be cool" - Mitch Towne "A great musician can bring tears to your eyes!!! So can a auto Mechanic." - Stokes Hunt
CEB Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 To make it really simplier you will need a rack panel for your empty space. Redco Audio will sell you a panel as either - blank - 4 holes - 8 holes- 12 or 16 holes. They also will sell your the pass through jacks. This panel originally came off my big rack. That is why the Midi jacks are there. Here is my rack bag it stands upright on it's bottom feet to my left side pointing up. I plug in the Furman the the keyboard snake and organ plugs in to the front. In my case an 11-pin Leslie cable comes out of the organ and ends in to phone plugs. The audio feed plugs into the blue Organ in 8, and the switch signal goes into the purple 'Leslie Switch'. You would simply plug in your switch and organ output into your appropiate jacks. Then your other mixer inputs and powered speaker feeds and FOH sends are there on the front of the rack. No need to jack with hooking up the mixer. My powered speakers plug into the the gray SPKR outputs and the sound guy plugs into the Red and Blue jacks at the end. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/CEB2/Racklabeled_zps458a7cba.jpg When you really get lazy you can get a snake made and save your self a lot of cable wrapping. Baldwin Funster Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Its a pedal. It was made for steppin on. FunMachine.
DanL Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 I used to have my Vent rack mounted, with Velcro in the back of my 6 space. After I got the SK1 I wasn't using it, and downsized to a 4 space rack. Now I'm using it with the SK1 so I Velcro it to the top of the rack or on the left side of my FA08, depending on the setup. It's one more piece to set up but I find I need to tweak the drive setting in one of my bands so I don't mind the little extra setup time. I used it in the floor for a long time, prior to racking it. It's a robust pedal and will take the abuse of being stepped on. Don't worry about it! Dr88s Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 CEB, so if I'm understanding correctly the colorful panel is just a thin plate to plug into the front of the rack, and there are cables on the other side headed into the back of the mixer? Because the line mixer is shallow (as mine is) and because the panel is so thin there is room to mount it behind... Correct? Is that the Vent way in back on the far right side? I may play around with a rack to prewire all I can as CEB has shown, but I may just end up ditching the remote for now. Nord Stage 2 Compact, Yamaha MODX8
DanL Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 My prewired rack doesn't look as nice as CEB's but it's fast to set up. I have all my cables that go to my boards hard wired into the mixer, so I only have to plug in the end that goes to the keys. I have an eye bolt in the back of the rack that all the cords are zip tied too for strain relief. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/dan88z/Mobile%20Uploads/20141118_143428_zpspscgcrwk.jpg Live: Nord Stage 3 Compact, Nord Wave 2, Viscount Legend Toys: Korg Kronos 2 88, Roland Fantom 08, Nord Lead A1,Roland FA08, Novation Ultranova, Moog LP www.echoesrocks.com

It is just a piece of 19" flat steel with pass through jacks mounted on them. All you need to assemble this is a screwdriver. I color coded the plugs on my snake and other stuff. My wife says I have something called OCD that makes me do this. PS here is one of those rack panels when pulled out of the rack. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/CEB2/B99E4F7A-73B3-4431-B960-1851EEAC6EEA_zpsqiamxqbx.jpg "It doesn't have to be difficult to be cool" - Mitch Towne "A great musician can bring tears to your eyes!!! MotiDave Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 I don't know why she'd say you have OCD. perhaps she was compelled to. The baiting I do is purely for entertainment value. Please feel free to ignore it.
Sven Golly Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Its a pedal. It was made for steppin on. Indeed; one would have thought this was obvious...
Dr88s Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 OCD is not necessarily a bad thing. O.C.D. is not necessarily a bad thing. CEB, where'd you get the pretty color coded panel labels? Seems like way too much trouble for my once-a-year gig (coming up in two weeks, BTW, YAY!), but I'm nerdy enough to spend unnecessary cash to have something that looks real cool. I'm with you on the books, but the "VENTILATOR is a stompbox by design, but you can set it on an organ or keyboard for easier access to the knobs." (from the Neo Instruments website).
