Yeah.....

Gordon Lightfoot is 75 today! So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to him....

Now, some, or all of the much younger in this forum might not think much of it, or might not realize just who he is or was....

But to old strummers and "folkies" like me, he was ONE of many major influences. We learned to play and/or sing to songs like "Early Morning Rain" or "Ribbon Of Darkness", which we discovered while looking for something OTHER than Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Phil Ochs, Pete Seeger or Peter, Paul and Mary to learn and play.

Indeed, when his career had a major resurgence in 1970 with "If You Could Read My Mind", I ran across many who had NEVER heard of him before! And I thought that was a shame.

Gordon who?? Heh, just messing with ya Fang! Age is just a number babe although I'll readily admit that hitting 50 was depressing. I got over that real dang quick when my beloved spouse took me on a surprise trip out to the left coast for that little car show they have every August on the 18th fairway at Pebble Beach. Hey nice nice thread hijack Lefty...let's not forget his classic Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
I was born at night but I wasn't born last night...

Although, as I pointed out, they came much LATER in his long career.

I'm 37 and Gordon Lightfoot was one of my mom's favorite singers. Of course, being from Michigan, Wreck was one of the most commonly played songs from my younger years, especially this time of year.

"Sundown" was another one of my favorites. "Carefree Highway" got a lot of radio play as well.

I think I wore out 'Wreck" on my mom's old 8-track when I was a kid.
