They`re neck and neck...

A followup to the discussion about neck widths-as promised here is a side by side comparison. On the left is the guitar I have been playing. On the right is the one that was given to me recently. I think it`s pretty obvious that the necks are very different. My older one is a lot more accommodating to fingerpicking.

The one on the left is definitely wider and should help with the finger pick'en!

Doesn't look THAT much wider to make TOO big a difference...

 

In fact, I tried a comparison measurement, and onscreen, the one on the left is less than an eighth of an inch wider---the perverbial "Red-headed cunt hair"!

An eighth of an inch is huge when it comes to fingerpicking!

I have problems fretting chords on a narrow neck, let alone fingerpicking!

I'm a hybrid picker and use a pick with three fingers, so I can get away with what I do on my narrow necked guitars. But even with my limited finger style ability, I can use my pick and fingers easier with the wider neck string spacing...

I suppose hand size or finger length gets into it too-someone with smaller hands might appreciate a narrow neck. Personally I feel like football training camp where they run those guys through rows of car tires.
