Markay Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Off to see the Stones tonight. Will be paying close attention to Chucks setup - in particular whether the Vent is visible or a Leslie is on stage. Seats in lower row of nosebleed section with side view, probably similar to the view shown here from the Melbourne concert last week. This will be second time I have seen Mick Taylor with the Stones and suspect they will be a lot tighter band this time than 40 years ago. [video:youtube] Pics later. Doerfler Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Off to see the Stones tonight. Will be paying dearly. enjoy.
Markay Posted November 12, 2014 Author Posted November 12, 2014 Yeah for my B grade seats about the same as for the Boss - up to $1,000 if you want to be in the "tongue pit", and very corporate - Amex card holder lounge - fine dining - the antithesis of rock n roll as we know it - but I like it, like it.... stoken6 Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 So is Mick Taylor joining both Keef and Ron on stage? That's at least one guitar too many, even for the Stones. I dunno, but Stones live always left me cold. The band have some great songs, great studio albums, but just too sloppy and inaccurate live performances imho. I love the sidemen, though: Darryl, Chuck and Bobby. Regards, Mike.

richforman Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Bobby's temporarily sidelined for medical issues. Too bad for the fans, his presence adds an extra boost of authenticity and excitement. Have fun, lifelong Stones fan myself, I"ve seen them just about every tour starting with Some Girls in '78. Saw them in NYC at the top of this tour in Dec '12 I think it was, was bummed that Mick Taylor wasn't part of that one, that would be really exciting too. Markay Posted November 12, 2014 Author Posted November 12, 2014 Great night. Some background. Last Saturday night's performance in Victoria was cancelled as Mick had a throat infection. Doctors orders apparently. Tonight Mick gave it his all but was probably only 90%. No dud notes but Keith remarked it was the first time he had been put up for 3 songs (audience groans). This was a stripped back show - no pyrotechnics. Excellent sound from our seats side of stage. Direct sound with no reflection. Bass heavy but I like the chest compression and hair moving in the breeze. You could hear every note and it sounded raw - more a like "a band in a club" than heavily produced theatre. The set list was late 60's, early 70's redux - the newest song on the set list was Miss You followed by Start Me Up. The highlight of the show was Midnight Rambler. We had listened to Get Ya Ya Ya's Out as we nudged our way there in the traffic. Tonight's 12 min version ( I recorded it on my phone) used that live version as a template and blew it away. Keith has said there was something special about playing with Mick and that was evident tonight. Ronnie was just making up the numbers. Chuck works hard all night as music director, 80% AP, 19% B3 and 1% EP (Miss You). Singing on every song although low in the mix and directing - see pics below. There were two songs that fell out of sync halfway through and Keith laughed when he screwed up the intro to Happy. But everyone on stage seemed to be enjoying themselves. The horn section seemed to have less to do than usual and were off stage quite a bit of the time. Lisa was in excellent form for Gimme Shelter. Gave Karl a wave but he had his back to me most of the night (see pic below) Chuck must have had a Vent as their was no Leslie but he seemed to be using a remote foot switch to control it - lit up on the floor at the left of the B3 in pic below. An excellent night but we came home with the feeling that it may have been the Last Time. http://i1346.photobucket.com/albums/p694/kkramm/P1010206chucksriglo_zps2d79a14b.jpg http://i1346.photobucket.com/albums/p694/kkramm/P1010216chuckdirectinglo_zps84edb3fc.jpg http://i1346.photobucket.com/albums/p694/kkramm/P1010219saxlo_zps1c67affa.jpg http://i1346.photobucket.com/albums/p694/kkramm/P1010221Gimmeshelterlo_zpsb5a69b0a.jpg A misguided plumber attempting to entertain | MainStage 3 | Axiom 61 2nd Gen | Pianoteq | B5 | XK3c | EV ZLX 12P
Outkaster Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Very cool. Years ago the Leslie was offstage as I remember and had mic ports built into the road case so it wouldn't bleed. Goff did that. The Stones are so much tighter than they ever were even now. "Danny, ci manchi a tutti. La E-Street Band non e' la stessa senza di te. Riposa in pace, fratello" noblevibes.com
MotiDave Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I watched a video of some band's keyboard players, they had two. I recall the primary organ player had his leslie under the stage. with a spare next to it in case of failure, crew could get it swapped during the show. He also had a spare B3 on the tour, they'd keep that under the stage but wouldn't swap out if a mid-show mishap occurred. He always had a clone plus a synth that could emulate B3 on stage for dual immediate backup emergencies mid show. maybe it was Bruce's E-St gang, you guys know the keyboardists I'm sure, I don't. I recall watching the video and thinking to myself... crap, i usually don't even have a spare instrument cord! The baiting I do is purely for entertainment value. Please feel free to ignore it.
Brettymike Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Thanks for that excellent report and pictures Markay! - did you take those!?. I've always loved Chuck Leavell's talented handy work on the keys where ever he goes - magic. Brett
Markay Posted November 12, 2014 Author Posted November 12, 2014 Thanks Brett. I took the pics on a Panasonic Lumix. The ones posted have been shrunk to 400k from the native 4meg image. A misguided plumber attempting to entertain | MainStage 3 | Axiom 61 2nd Gen | Pianoteq | B5 | XK3c | EV ZLX 12P
Markay Posted November 12, 2014 Author Posted November 12, 2014 I am pretty sure there wasn't a Leslie on tour. IIRC the Leslie was on stage in previous tours when I saw them. The side view afforded a good view of backstage also where we could see the guitar techs, roadies and close friends etc. There was no activity under the stage in this venue. Brettymike Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Excellent! Thanks Markay . I must put this top gun keyboardist in here from back in 1992 with Eric Clapton "Old Love" - Chuck L's Divine solo right here > http://youtu.be/2gJlVIxrmcM?t=4m59s (turn it up Loud!)Love the way he stands up to reach the keys good @ 6:18 ) Brett
Joe Muscara Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 I must put this top gun keyboardist in here from back in 1992 with Eric Clapton "Old Love" - Chuck L's Divine solo I've seen interviews with Chuck and he has no idea why Clapton hasn't called him back. Is Eric afraid Mick will get pissed at him if there's a conflict? "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible!
