Bill H.
This trap track was absolutely huge all summer long, and crossed over into the pop top 10 too. Kids and young adults will recognize it's theme immediately. Waveform sounds digitally based - possibly doable on a MEK (?) cedar
ELP - Fanfare for the common man? Hah. I hadn't listened to this tune for a couple of decades, but just decided to do a Youtube search, and found this version with Emerson, John Entwhistle, Skunk Baxter, Joe Walsh and Simon Phillips. Keith has quite the rig. [video:youtube]
Bill H.
More EDM. Theme on this one starts at around 1:35: [video:youtube] Theme on this one starts at around 0:40: [video:youtube] Both these tracks were huge hits, and EDM is probably even bigger in Europe than here in the US (if that's even possible). I guess the point I'm making is that synth hooks, riffs, and themes are more common in today's music than at any time in the past. In fact, it's the glue that holds most contemporary hits together. If you wanted to show how a synthesizer is relevant today (and not just a relic from the 20th Century) it might be fun to incorporate a few of these themes in your examples Carlo. Neolithic
How about Enola Gay by OMD? It's got a mono synth lead chorus that has been used so much in advertising etc. that surely everyone knows it? There was a sound you could smell / like you were inhaling tomorrow. Bobadohshe
I think it's kind of funny that people are tripping over themselves to name esoteric songs that have a mono synth line when Marino asked for songs people would recognize. I play keys for a living and haven't heard of a 1/4 of these. marino
As always, lots of suggestions. I now have a clearer picure of what might br included, so tomorrow I'll write down an extended list, then a final list of the themes that I will play. I'll try to include a bit of every genre and period. I have little time yo learn anything (I also have to program the sounds), and the videos will be shot mostly without interruption, so that will have to be taken into account too. No suggestion for Wakeman's Minimoog lines other than "Catherine Parr"? "And You and I", perhaps? Anything else? In any case - thanks a million to everyone! You're always great! MotiDave
If you want signature recognized synth riffs, here's a few The Final Countdown - Europe Lets Go - The Cars Jump - yes, Jump - Van Halen (I don't get the mono issue, you can play a perfectly identifiable Jump OB sound in mono, I did it for years - maybe you could explain that issue?) Runaway - Bon Jovi Tom Sawyer - Rush Melt With You - Modern English (really just a basic strings) Rebel Yell - Billy Idol Don't Change - INXS Baba O'Riley - The Who Sweet Dreams - The Eurythmics Rainbow in The Dark - Dio The baiting I do is purely for entertainment value. Please feel free to ignore it.

Markay
The OP said demonstrate synth to the General Public. Most of the suggestions here I doubt anyone outside of keyboard players would recognise. I would stick with synth lines from global hits if the objective is to get, and keep, the 'general public' watching to the end. The synth riff at the end of Get Lucky might be a nice one to finish on - and it is monophonic. Sven Golly
For fear of losing my "Goodwill Ambassador" title, I have to post this. Head East - Never Been Any Reason So many possible responses to this. Head East - Never Been Any Reason Signed, Head East's Mother Head East - Never Been Any Reason Yes, because no doubt a band from the U.S. midwest that only barely cracked the Billboard Top 50 once, in the mid 1970's, will be known to everybody in Italy.
