cool new effects

I just have to tangentially comment that I have I don’t know how many dozen stompboxes, and an appreciable number of them work with expression pedals.  I do not own a single expression pedal.

I’m certain that I’d have even more fun using an ExPed with many of them, but there’s a certain contrarian streak in my mind that keeps me from even SHOPPING for one.  I don’t have a clue as to who makes them- regardless of quality- or what features (if any) are key.  It’s not the only void in my gear arsenal, but it may be one of the odder ones, all things considered.

Take the plunge. 'S been a while, but I have used expression pedals with select effects- sweeping, parking, morphing; applications are limitless, and the results can be amazing. I guarantee that you will really, REALLY enjoy it!

Not an effect at all, but could turn up in effects, amps, mixing boards, etc., someday:   https://phys.org/news/2023-01-newly-polysulfates-wide-high-performance-electronics.html

Could also lead to a new standard for those DIY partscaster builders who love putting huge high-voltage PIO capacitors in their Tele, Strat, and Les Paul copies... :D

Conceptually, it seems like it's not that much different from a Mixer with built-in effects?

Not new, but one of the 3 effects I've decided to use on my busking rig. I'm also using my Fulltone 2b boost and EHX Satisfaction Fuzz plus the chorus and reverb on my amp.

Is there an echo in here... ?  🙃

An excellent lineup! You're going to sound great!

A couple of my local EM friends have tried to convince me that I really should have a Mood pedal, but at $400 . . . not anytime soon.

I’d expect your electronic rig would make a lot of pedals- the Mood included- almost unnecessary.  Or at least emulatable in a cost-effective manner.

It so very IS!  Which is why it so greatly tempts ME.

…but for someone with a sophisticated keys/synth rig, it’s nice but nothing that might inspire ravenous desire, I’d think.

Wait…you meant WINSTON’S rig, didn’t you?

@Caevan O’Shiteand @Dannyalcatraz - Thanks for the vote of confidence, brothers! However . . .

I often think of Fripp, in a period between iterations of King Crimson, when he expressed his aspiration to function as "a small, mobile, intelligent unit." I share that aspiration, to the degree that it's possible.

To that end, my live Novparolo rig consists of a small Guitar Synth (Roland GR-20) and just 3 Guitar pedals (OD, MOD, & Delay), and it all fits very neatly on a Pedaltrain 1 'board, in a hard case. @Dannyalcatraz referred to it as a "Grab-and-Go" rig, which describes it very well.

What I do in the shadows of my Music room, however . . .

Let Perfect Circuit describe these:

New Warm Audio WA-MPX and WA-2MPX tube mic preamps! Based on the preamp design from AMPEX 351 reel-to-reel tape machines, these pres are designed to add tape-like warmth and saturation to your recordings.

...and Vintage King's video:

Very impressive as an OD, but even dimed out, it never really crosses into full-blown Fuzz territory, which I was kind of hoping for.

I much prefer the sound of it with HB's, although Andy seems overfond of the Bridge PU's in this demo? Would have been nice to hear more variety in the Guitar's tone going into the box.

SIde note - I hadn't seen a Vantage Guitar in a long time!

You know I'd be stacking a fuzz or octave-fuzz into it...

Next up, the Screen Violence from Old Blood Noise Endeavors.  Not exactly new, but “back in the news” because they’ve started selling it in stores outside of the USA- until recently, it was only available directly from OBNE’s website:

It’s designed for guitarists and synth players in shoegaze, post-rock and other genres where constructing pulsing, gritty soundscapes are often paired with piercing cleans.

I'll have to check that one out more closely when I get home later. You don't often see a Dirt box of any kind with Dual In's, a VERY useful feature if you're running Stereo Synth sounds into it.

I would think! I think I would be able to find some good uses for the dual inputs, myself.
