Anyone using iPads for music/guitar stuff?

Russclan's post reminded me to bring up iPads (or similar devices)...

Is anyone using them for guitar stuff?

I use an app called Loopy for my ambient looping gigs...it's working great. You might have seen Billy Joel and Jimmy Fallon jamming with it.

For practise there is an app called Jam Up. Well, really it's an amp and effects sim that sounds pretty good to me. But for practise there is a feature that imports tunes from your iTunes collection and can be retuned up or down, and slowed down for fast licks. You can loop sections of a song to go over a particular phrase etc.

I think some people gig with the amp sims, but for me it's just been a really useful practise tool.

Anyone else using idevice kind of things?

We'll, I'm using the ReacTable app for exploring my love of electronica. Loads of fun and surprisingly powerful.

And I bought a DigiTech iPB-10 to practice on. Alas, I haven't had time to really sit down and learn how to use it.

My wife recently got a new Android tablet, and I inherited her iPad, so I've been meaning to look around myself. Since I only play at home, and all my stuff is in the bedroom, I'm gonna try and stay with the free stuff. Just something simple for times when I might want to go noodle around in the living room or whatever.

I already have a fairly pricey interface, and not-exactly-cheap monitors, so free is the best option for simply relocating to the couch...

A lot of the apps (including the Jam Up one i mentioned) have a free version.

GarageBand is now free. It has a bunch of amps and effects too, although I'm not sure what comes with th free version.

I have an I-Pad, and I have Garage Band and some other music apps on it, but truthfully I would rather use a full blown music dedicated computer. I have never tried a recording with the I-Pad however, so I can't say as to how well it would work vs a real dedicated recording computer.

However I have heard some real good stuff come from I-Pads, and there is one great recording app for the I-Pad called Auria http://auriaapp.com/Products/auria fifty bucks at the app store last time I looked.

I do use the I-Pad for games, and sometimes internet access when the wifey is on my laptop.

I use AmpliTube on my iPhone and MacBook Pro... usually then plugged into the aux in of a little zT Lunchbox Jr. that sits in my den if not through headphones. If I need to learn songs I play them in iTunes or Spotify or Youtube with AmpliTube running at the same time.

There's a free version... liked it so much that lead me to paying for it, then buying the Fender pack with amps and effects.

When I travel, I take a little travel-size Lotus Strat along and plug it in.

And actually, I'm selling this thing short- if you have .wav files, you can import them into the appropriate use in the looper control unit.

So, if you have a library of nifty axe lick, you can drop them in there and manipulate them all kinds of ways. On a mobile device.
