Pink was not lip synching at all...she does the acrobat thing every live show, it's cool

You don't think she is also lip synching during her live shows?

Believe me, that section of her show was/is tracked.

No it's not tracked...there may be some extra compression or whatever to keep the wind sounds from fucking up the vocal but she is singing live, no autotune, no tracks...I know this because I know a few people who have first hand knowledge.

So do I.. so one of our sources is wrong, or is honoring their non disclosure agreements.

Millions of impressionable kids now know who Chicago, Carole King, James Taylor, NIle Rodgers, Stevie Wonder, Lang Lang, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard et al is/are, and in some cases some of their songs. All good in my book.

And considering the first Chicago album came before the parents of many of those impressionable kids were even born, kudos to the Grammy folks and Ken Ehrlich for having the guts to put them on the telecast.

I feel really old.

Seeing this thread's title and really digging Chicago during the 70's, I just had to use Google to figure out WTF a "Robin Thicke" is.

I'm going to Google "twerking" next. I just hope I don't get busted by the NSA for trying to find child porn while doing so.

Gigs: Nord 5D 73, Kurz PC4-7 & SP4-7, Hammond SK1, Yamaha MX88 & P121, Numa Compact 2x, Casio CGP700, QSC K12, Yamaha DBR10, JBL515xt(2). Alto TS310(2)

well, I'm usually more out of breath after doing something crazy than during, I think you'd have to pace yourself regardless. It's amazing, to my ears, it seems like she did it

*maybe the last chorus of acrobatics had some track, hard to tell

Chicago was cool - but then I found Chase and sorta forgot Chicago. Shame Chase only got one album out and then...well, plane crash and all.

Would have liked to have seen where they went next.

I bought an album by the Flock called "Dinosaur Swamps" in the mid 70's when I was high just because of the great album cover. Once I started listening to the Flock, Chicago and BS&T started to recede for me as type examples of creative rock horn bands. IMO the Flock was an absolutely astounding band with lots of horns and very creative, at times, psychedelic jazzy grooves. They really stretched it out and were way ahead of their time, but unfortunately I only know of two albums they recorded in 1969 and 1970. Also I don't think they had a dedicated keyboardist.

Check this tune out (and the Dinosaur Swamps album cover at the beginning of the clip), which is one of my favs by the Flock:

The swinging groove they slide into at ~3:40 is a really nice change.

Here is a rather poor quality live clip of the Flock where the violin opens up with an outstanding Stephan Grappelli gypsy jazz thing followed by some funky horn stuff later:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxKxzxab3hs

The violinist is a young Jerry Goodman who went on later to play with Mahavishnu. The Flock was a great band, but they could have used a B3 to fatten the sound out.

I too was there when Chase had their hayday. Sure they had an impressive horn sound, but better than Chicago "if only." I disagree, Chicago had great vocalists, song writing, Terry Kath, perfect horn writing and playing for them. No way would of Chase had the staying power that Chicago still displays. Still love Chase but IMO apples/oranges.

Get It On by Chase has one of my all time favourite organ solos..!! Sorry, couldn't find a good quality recording, but give this a listen.. Seriously.. this organ solo is a thing of beauty.. short solo but it's quick, concise, and great jazzy feel.. OMG it's like perfection!!

It's a real shame we didn't get more of this... seriously if you haven't heard this tune, and you like Hammond, you have to give it a listen.

Yeah, that is a great song and solo. But if you listen to the horn parts they are lifted off of BST. In fact, I hear about four BST songs in this.

'55 and '59 B3's; Leslies 147, 122, 21H; MODX 7+; NUMA Piano X 88; Motif XS7; Mellotrons M300 and M400; Wurlitzer 200; Gibson G101; Vox Continental; Mojo 61; Launchkey 88 Mk III; Korg Module

HD yes... even the singer.. kind of a DCT knockoff.. but so what, it's great stuff.. the way the song is all packaged so tight and concise.. just like the organ solo..

Ooooooo... Pterodactyls on the cover. Who can identify the other '70's album cover that features the same birds/reptiles?

Reminds me of when Ides of March used a very similar chord progression from BST's "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" for their hit "Vehicle"...

I played a show with the Flock in Macomb Illinois back in the day, and still have the concert poster on my wall to prove it.

Jerry was indeed a monster! Ran into him a couple of years later when Mahavishnu Orchestra rented my Hammond for an early show.

Jan Hammer blew up my leslie...

Another great horn band we played with (ironically, I have the poster for that also) was Sons of Champlin. Bill Champlin then went on to play with Chicago, and is still with them I believe.

I rarely ever can name drop but the organist comes from Massachusetts, Phil Porter - haven't talked to him in years. Very humble guy.

He left Chicago in 2008. His son Will was on the last season of The Voice, finishing 3rd.
