Purchased a Near-Mint Whammy WH-1

BiC

I mean this thing is nearly off-the-shelf. There are only a couple of minor scuffs/scratches on the pedal's leading edge, and on the front logo. Other than that, it would seem this thing has been babied over the years. Likely placed back into its box after each use (which seems few and far between), as I do with all of my own pedals.

Check it out... the print might seem scuffed/blurry, but that is my camera/photobucket.

Excellent and long time no see BiC!

Well my sense is, that this one got caught up in the `effect syndrome`, where at some point nearly every guitar player signed to a label was using it and it got associated with a certain genre or two of music-but it has a lot more potential. Have fun!

Same old surprises, brand new cliches-

Thanks for the warm greetings, Skip!

Yes, it's the original. I exposed the guts to ensure the original chip was still installed. Also, it is version 3 of the original. I can't find anything on the differences of the versions. But, my guess is that it is cosmetic... mainly being the rubber skids on the back plate. I've seen differences in the WH-1 on those. Also, there is this cardboard wall around something on the circuit board. I don't know what that is for, but you can see it in someone's photo (not mine) here of a version 3. Look at the top, left of the cardboard and you will see the "Ver 3.0", the version 3:

As for the sound, I don't have any previous experience with these particular pedals. But, I also have the Whammy V, and the Whammy V is comparable to it. But to my ears, the WH-1 has a slight edge over it, especially in the Shallow mode. In the Shallow mode, the WH-1 has a noticeable flanger sweep. But, I don't hear this on the V. The WH-1 also sounds more glitchy. Also, the footswitch on the WH-1 is silent- I actually thought it was broke when I first unboxed it because it did not click. The V has a click. Also, the WH-1 is much smaller than the V, providing more real estate on a pedal board. But, the V is a great pedal. Plus, it is true-bypass. Knowing what I know now, would I pay double+ the cost for a WH-1 over the V? I can't answer that just yet. I have to play around with them some more. I've had a major case of GAS lately. So, that's why I picked both of them up. :rawk:

BTW, if you are a fan of the original Whammy, what would you had paid for one in this kind of condition, including the box and power supply? There was even an old sticker in the box and a small 1987 poster advertising various pedals. The only thing missing was the registration card/manual.

Here's one on ebay that is classified as "NM." But, speaking with the seller, it seems to be in Mint condition:
