O/T Rare weekend off - cheap mic discovery - "Strictly" band

Whole weekend off and having a ball with family. On looking for Christmas presents but checked in to read what my virtual mates on here are at.

Cheap mic discovery - I do parties where I give out mics to let people sing along (people love mics). I needed more and thought I'd give the Thomann SM85s a go. They're good - for skint working musos like me who need to cut corners to feed the kids. For comparison - I use SM58s and EV767a mics. Both ok, SM58 particularly forgiving and bombproof, EV better if they can actually sing. Those cheap Thomanns are as good.

Kids watching "Strictly Come Dancing" - I'm in Scotland btw. Great live band (it sounds live). Really ridiculously good.

My regular function band have a weekend of pubs gigs and I said no - not for that money. They're calling me Linda Evangelista - some model who said she wouldn't get out of bed for less than ... anyway, not even sure if they've good the name right.

Off for another few beers and a Thai curry. Life's good.

I'm the piano player "off of" Borrowed Books.

yeah, it was Kate Moss who said she wouldn't get out of bed for less than US $10,000.

I hear what you are saying though. Life is fleeting. You will never get those moments back that you spend with your family.

+1. Lifts the show above X factor for me.

Cheers, Mike.

+1. (never watched X factor). Thanks for the tip on the mic, I need to acquire one for use with a vocoder.

Is it this one?

I think it's probably this one instead:

I'm using one of those for my backing vocals. Still would like to be able to turn it up some more before I get feedback, but I blame that on my weak voice rather than the microphone. Haven't tried whether a real SM58 makes any difference.

For me, I watch it for Flavia Cacacae. When that girl Tangos, the whole world stops revolving and watches, mouth agape.

Sad to hear she was leaving.
