Rustar
I have found with my SK1 that when after setting my output to mono, the key depth to auto and other settings as needed, I press enter to set them, and later, after turning the instrument off and back on again, these settings are not saved. My question is: is this a bug or a feature? It's still under warranty, and and I'm coming up on a lull in my gigging schedule, which would give me the opportunity to have it repaired. Additionally, the volume level no longer responds to my Yamaha FC-9 pedal, which it did initially. I've tried all've the settings, and have updated to the latest os, and get no response. The pedal works on my other boards. Thanks for any and all responses. Hammond SK1, Casio PX5s, Motif ES rack, Kawai MP5, Kawai ESS110, Yamaha S03, iPad, and a bunch of stuff in the closet. Jim Alfredson
You have to save those settings per patch. To use Yamaha expression pedals, you have to set the EXPR ESSN parameter in the CONTROL menu to PED(REV). Keep it greazy! Rustar
Thanks again for your help with this problem. Here is how I tested: -I plug in the pedal and power up. -I go to the EXPR page and set to ESSN PED(REV) -The MON value is "0", and doesn't change when I operate the pedal, the value remains at "0". -I power down, remove the pedal plug, and power up the system. -The MON value is now at "127". When I plug in the pedal, the value changes to "0". When I work the pedal, the value doesn't change and remains at "0". -My next option is to buy a new pedal to test this. Also, I wonder if reburning the system update might help. Thanks again for your input. OB Dave
Since the pedal was working previously and now it's not, you probably should check to see if the pedal itself is broken. Do you have another keyboard you can test it on? Even if you have the SK-1's ESSN PED parameter set incorrectly, the Yamaha pedal will still work, it'll just have a crappy response curve. Rustar
Thanks for your response. I have tested the pedal on the other boards, and it works. The manual mentions a Korg pedal as an alternative the the even more expensive Hammond pedal. I can buy a a cheap pedal for test purposes, and return it. Can't believe that the SK1 under normal conditions would be so twitchy, which is why I'm trying to determine if it's a malfunction and send it for repair. OB Dave
Yes, this is odd. My SK-1 came with the cheapie Hammond pedal and I didn't like it at all. Felt a lot like the cheapie Roland EV-5. The Yamaha FC-9 is vastly superior and has a much longer and more natural "throw," but it has a poor response curve until you set the EXPR ESSN parameter correctly. Once I got that sorted out, I've been very happy with the results. I don't have the manual in front of me, but there are some other pedal gain parameters that can be tweaked, and I wonder if one of these has been set to some crazy value which is rendering the pedal inoperable.
