Any forumites having trouble with YouTube links on iOS?

I used to have no problem seeing the embedded YouTube links in all of your posts. The past few weeks, though, the embedded video windows show up empty space in the middle of the posts on my iPhone and iPad (running the latest iOS).

Is this just my problem, or have other forumites run into the same issue? Any suggestions? Sometimes if I repeatedly tap my finger on the blank space it will launch the video, but most of the time nothing at all happens.

Seeing as how my mobile devices are my preferred way of reading this board, it is ever so frustrating...

Yeah, me too.

I just switched from an iPad 1 running iOS 5.something to an iPad Air running iOS 7, so I thought it might be that.

My wife still has the iPad 1 so I might try it on hers. I'll report back if I find anything.

Before I fired up the iPad 1, I tried something else.

I visited this site while I wasn't logged in. Strangely, all the YouTube videos appeared. I could play them. Then, reloading the page seems to make the videos disappear.

Also, logging in, visiting the video thread, then logging out and reloading caused the videos to become blank spaces again.

This is very odd. I'd suspect Safari or iOS7, but PaulRKeys' report of seeing the issue in Chrome puts that into question.

Everything works fine on the iPad 1 as far as seeing the videos on first and then reloaded pages.

Same here... Another "feature" of IOS 7... Ugh!

I suspect so. I'm having the exact same problems as the rest of you. This is like an expansion of the Flash fiasco - which continues to be a pain in the ass. But.... I do have a workaround for the Flash issue - though sometimes images and videos get distorted: have had some success using the built-in browser in iSwifter, but haven't yet opened it in iOS 7. Will try it and report back. Still...there should be a basic fix for this problem when using Safari, Chrome, etc.. This isn't rocket science: It's almost 2014, and we put a man on the moon in 1969

I've also noticed that embedded images in emails don't always appear now. Anyone else having that problem as well ?

Just tried iSwifter. Videos / images do appear, and work, somewhat; at times it can be a bit like watching TV in the early 1970's - in a rough reception area. There is a lag for the screen to catch-up, though: scrolling down the selection list on the forum reminds me a little of viewing the moon landing in 1969; it's a little 'crackly' until things settle in.

Oh this is good.

If you tap the blank spot where the video is supposed to be, it will load and play. You won't see it, but you can hear it.

Definitely a bug.

Downloaded Mercury... So far, so good. Thanks, therealvicz !

Thanks, TKN, as well. Will also check out 'Coast', as it's good to have two browsers that can cover all bases - especially when Chrome and Safari both seem to suffer from this issue. I wonder if Coast or Mercury will work with 'Flash only' videos the way iSwifter does. Will check that out later - it's time to go be with family for Thanksgiving here !

I got that this morning on my iPad. It is definitely not on iOS 7, it might even be on 5.

I just noticed videos on this site are working correctly for me again. How about anyone else?

Noticed the same this morning. Just seemed to fix itself.

I wonder if it was on the YouTube end. :idk:
