Dave Bryce
Just made two keyboard purchases - one Hammond organ... http://www.hammondsuzuki.com/images/xk-1c-01.jpg ....and one monophonic Moog synthesizer. http://www.moogmusic.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/730x490scale/product/Sub%20Phatty1small.jpg Why do I feel like I'm in the 70s? dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Affiliations: Cloud Microphones • Music Player Network

AnotherScott
Why do I feel like I'm in the 70s? I think what it means is that it won't be long before a lot of us are in our 70s.... Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! Here and there for recording, sure....but the thing actually has a really nice feeling semi-weighted keybed, and is a pleasure to play on. dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Affiliations: Cloud Microphones • Music Player Network
AnotherScott
I wish they had made it 29 keys. Having two full octaves from the lowest E makes a big difference for playing bass lines. Dave Bryce
Agreed, but I think they were trying to hit a sub $1k MAP price point...and, frankly, I think they made a good call by choosing a nice feeling keybed, even if it did mean a few less keys. It's pretty easy to shift octaves on the fly with the SP, too - dedicated buttons on the front panel for that. dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Affiliations: Cloud Microphones • Music Player Network
RABid
Almost the same situation here. A Hammond XK-3c and a Roland Jupiter. I think the Roland has a misprint on the case. Someone put a 0 after the 8. This post edited for speling.

The Real MC
I wish they had made it 29 keys. Having two full octaves from the lowest E makes a big difference for playing bass lines. There's this really kewl feature - you can use a MIDI controller of longer key length to overcome the two octave keyboard.
GovernorSilver
I've managed to keep the Sub Phatty GAS at bay, but the Arturia Microbrute is another matter, because of its low price, sequencer, and patch panel.

To have to bring a whole other keyboard to get 4 extra keys... and then have the messed up ergonomics of no longer having the controls directly adjacent to the keys you're playing them from... It looks like they may have even been able to keep it the same size, the wheel panel looks kinda large... Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! If you're a MiniMoog guy and you don't wanna get GAS, I recommend you avoid it. Oh yeah, I survived my encounter with the Sub Phatty. I had to remind myself repeatedly of the latest home repair job I need to pay for to escape GC without the Sub Phatty taking a ride with me. wmp
It's 2013, an epic year for me. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Most of the good has been the GAS. New stuff in this picture includes the Baldwin 243, Hammond B3, Clavinet E7, Kurzweil PC3K8, Midas Venice F32. http://B3and88.com/img/2013gas.jpg The Vent is on the floor by the Hammond. The Casio PX-5s is by the door in a gig bag. Four QSCs K8 in the closet. --wmp

Dave Bryce
Check the price of a bag. You won't feel like you're in the '70s anymore. Maybe...but the funny thing is - a Moog synth and a Hammond organ both would have cost more in the 70's... dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Affiliations: Cloud Microphones • Music Player Network
marino
A Micromoog or a Satellite would have cost something comparable to the Sub Phatty.... Btw I've played the Sub and it's really lovely. *Very* good feeling knobs and keys, and a sound not far from the MiniTaur, only it goes up there. However I must agree with the majority... a two-octave keyboard on a Moog synthesizer is a cosmic silliness.

Michael W
I don't mind the retro keyboard thing, but personally have no interest in rolling back the clock to the days before patch memory.
