Basshappi
Bummer. Hopefully his treatments will go well and he will be rockin' the lowend for years to come. jeremy c
I'm sending good thoughts in his direction. I'd put John McVie at the top of the list of underrated bassists. He doesn't do anything to attract attention to himself, he doesn't slap or shred, but he's been holding down the bottom for Fleetwood Mac for decades. Those decades include many style shifts by the band. I still have vinyl of their early blues albums. He is a rock and always plays the perfect part for any situation. He also played with John Mayall before Fleetwood Mac. Free download of my cd!.
Ross Brown
early Fleetwood Mac blues is fun and good.... for sure... "When I take a stroll down Jackass Lane it is usually to see someone that is already there" Mrs. Brown
Bottom End
He is a rock and always plays the perfect part for any situation. That is a great summary of what make John McVie so great. "Call me what instrument you will, though you can fret me, yet you cannot play upon me.'-Hamlet Guitar solos last 30 seconds, the bass line lasts for the whole song. 5 string Mike
I agree- he's been relatively out of the spotlight, even as big as Mac got, he's always been low key (compared to the rest of the band, anyways). Praying for a speedy recovery and remission. Nicklab
Heard this news and I'm definitely sad to hear it. John McVie has a fantastic voice on the instrument, and his grooves are a big part of so much of that Fleetwood Mac catalog. The news has definitely got me wanting to revisit the "Beano" record which pre-dates his work with the 'Mac http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/ab/Bluesbreakers_John_Mayall_with_Eric_Clapton.jpg Hoping for a speedy recovery for him!
