Why do you say "Aadd9" instead of A9? (I have not listened to the example)

It seems the "add" part is superfluous, unless you're saying "A9 with no 7th"

That's exactly what 'add9' means. It's not dominant/mixolydian harmony, it's major scale harmony with the 2nd/9th present as well as the 3rd.

Thanks guys, I played it as Aadd2nd/C# to D7sus D7 (you can hear the alternation between G and F#

 

As for the 2nd, ninth thing. I was always of the impression it became ninth if the chord was dominant and extended beyond that. Whereas straight triads it was always 2nd. Same rule applies for the 4th, 11th scenario.
