Nord: New velocity curve

Aidan

Recommended Posts

This new OS Update adds a new velocity curve to the Nord Piano 2 series. The new curve can make it easier to play softly, requiring more force to reach higher velocities. The new soft curve can be activated by selecting KBD Touch setting 3.

Unfortunately, only on the NP2 at the moment. Dave Ferris may like to give it a spin and report back? Wondering whether this might go some way to resolving my own issues with the NS2. However, when I asked Nord whether it would be included in a future Stage OS update, I got the standard "we don't discuss future developments" response.

I'd like to see that velocity curve added to the Stage 2; and a Stage 2 EX upgrade would be great ( with improved rotary sim and updates to the organ section, plus some additions in the clav and Wurlitzer areas..). But from talking to Nord this side of the pond it doesn't appear that's going to happen. Doesn't sound like the Stage 3 is imminent, but I got the distinct vibe that it's later in the Stage 2's life cycle than I'd thought..

You were lucky to get that much! All we get over here is "nord do not discuss forthcoming products/features/keyboards/sounds until they are released..

Indeed, SSM, that was pretty much verbatim. On the other hand, I don't see why they shouldn't/couldn't put this feature in an imminent OS update, so I remain somewhat hopeful.

As for the Stage 3, the one thing Nord really badly needs to address is the outdated single-layer samples, IMO.

Mmmm. I agree that urgently needs looking at, but we're also badly in need of better Rhodes sounds I think.

... and just in case they're reading, a little more polyphony in the synth section would be good. When using both panels its sharing 18 voices! Not enough sometimes!

Hi Aidan. Yes I did download the new OS and posted a brief OT first impression over in the Darren's CP4 thread. It probably got lost in the shuffle but fwiw--yes you can play a little softer it seems, but the overall effect of improving the basic general feel of the keyboard, at least through phones, seems to be minimal at best for me.

Maybe when I get it out on the gig tomorrow night, through some speakers I might notice more of an improvement. But right now, nothing for me to get too excited about.
