Limited quantity model, and apparently only available in Europe.

After following the link watching the other pics, I dislike the grain so much and find it so clunky, now wondering what the price reduction will be.

Looks like faux wood paneling used on a '70s station wagon, only worse.

Korg really has the market cornered on these lousy color schemes. Didn't they outfit the X50 with camouflage at one point? No doubt to hide how crappy that board was. But seriously, Korg, call me if you decide to do leopard print.

Oh yes, and such a work of art that was.

(as I posted elsewhere...)

Unfortunately, all that's changed is the look. The basic design of the side panels is one of the things that I think is flawed in the Kronos. The high and forward-jutting right panel is annoyingly close to the high C, especially for organ playing. And the entire panel is high and shaped such that there is no comfortable way to pick up the board by grabbing it at its side panels.

Compare that to the Yamaha Motif XF6, for example, where there is no barrier to whack at the high C, and there are grip points built into the side handles.

Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)

OK. So there IS a Korg keyboard with a panel that is harder to read than the one on the Kronos. I never expected that.

This post edited for speling.

Yes, I think that was their Spanish Inquisition model.

Speaking of hard to read panels... I came across this funky limited edition Korg Wavestation, painted by a French artist.

I guess there's no accounting for taste...I think the Kronos looks pretty darn sharp like that - Tuxedo black with white LEDs, color touchscreen, and wooden end caps. :thu: At least as long as it's real wood with random woodgrain, and not just veneer-coated chipboard.

I always thought the Virus KB was the prettiest looking synth Access ever made. I've thought about getting a set of the PC3K's end caps to put on my PC3x, since that seems to be the only cosmetic difference between the two.

I think wood trim looks classy, at least on synths...And no, I've never owned a station wagon with fake wood!

One of my students who owns a PC3X just started making wooden end cheeks for his Kurz; should look very classy when complete - from the work I've seen so far.

I've also preferred wooden, case components on keyboards. My favorite two-keyboard rig - from a visual standpoint - has always been the S90ES / VR-760 combination I had seven to eight years ago...

+1

Although I do think rosewood would look better.

Reminds me of my old Yamaha SK20.

Ah, the wood is SOLID Zebrawood, an exotic wood, certainly not fake. If you prefer cheaper, pedestrian woods, e.g. fir, pine as is found on other boards, who's to argue. I think the black grains help tie the wood in with the black case. Too often, wood end caps are attached with little regard for how they compliment the actual keyboard. Would it be my first choice? Don't know. This wasn't done by Korg BTW. Korg does not own the German/French subs. Korg does own Korg USA.

Here's a pic of Prada's Flagship Manhattan store which makes extensive use of Zebrawood.

The end caps on the S90/S90ES were not solid and prone to scratches revealing the light colored chip board. Not my favorite. The caps HAVE to be solid wood.

Probably the greatest example of end cap FAIL I can recall was with the Kurzweil K2600. Kurzweil had a promotion which included a fully loaded K2600SX with exclusive wood caps and some sample libraries. The marketing line was "$15,000 and worth every penny!" At this point with the K2xxx series Elvis had left the building so this was pure hubris on Kurzweil's part. I have to think it contributed at least in some small way to Kurzweil's near death experience a few years later.

Considering how easy it is to scratch and nick that finish, I'd have gladly paid extra for solid wood, or at the very least a heavier duty laminate and finish. The delicate end cap tradition continued with the S90XS; mine was mint when purchased, has been babied, yet somehow a nick occured on the top of one of the end caps.

I remember a similar unit that was a Sweetwater special edition. Kurzweil used to be their flagship keyboard maufacturer; makes sense - in that their retail business, and customer service philosophy started with the Kurzweil K250.
