HammondDave
I must say, I am very impressed! They sound almost as good as my old EV SXA360's... Very even sound from a whisper to ear shattering SPL's... Pianos, Hammonds, Mellotrons, Transitor organs, Drums, Guitars, Voices, etc.. all sound great. And you can't beat the price... $399 MAP... but I got the pair for significantly less through Pro Audio Star. You can give them an offer and they just may accept it! They did with me... These are definitely QSC killers! Sold my K10 and will not look back. In fact, I sold one used K10 and it almost paid for both of these two new EV's! Electro Fan
Hammonddave, It sounds like you got a great deal on the powered pa speakers. If you don't mind me asking, what percentage of a discount did Pro Audio Star accept? I am looking to maybe order a new keyboard from Pro Audio Star and noticed the option of submitting an offer. I have no real haggling experience with gear and wondered what would seem a reasonable discount that they would accept. dama
Wondering how they compare to the EV ELX112P line, which I bought about a year ago. The ZLX 12-P seem to be selling at a lower price and weigh less. Also they put the handle at the right angle, so you can carry it more comfortably. My other speaker has a handle on both sides, which is even better. But I really like the sound quality of the ELX112P also. HammondDave
Electro fan.... I always start off with a 33% discount and see what happens.... They will usually come back with a counter offer... Then I split the difference. But this works better if you order multiple units, like I did with the speakers. HammondDave
Really, I am quite amazed at the sound quality of these speakers... I spoke with the EV VP of sales at NAMM and he told me that people really do not care anymore about "minor cost cutting measures and a slightly lower fit and finish in quality. So they are made in China instead of the US? Who really cares?"... He is right... Most musicians on this board could care less that the VR-09 is compromised as long as it hits the $999 mark. Same for the Casio... It's basically made out of a plastic toylike material, but it sounds good and fits most needs... Although there are compromises there as well. When you look closely at the new EV's there is a plastic lid that you would never find on a former higher priced EV model. I will have to be more careful moving these (where my former SXA 360s were tanks). But what's the trade off? The former SXA 360s street price was $1000. The ZLX 12p street price is $330. You figure out which model will sell.... If I had the choice between the ZLX and my former SXA360's, I would take my former speakers in a heartbeat. However, I do believe that these speakers sound much better than the QSC K10s, especially at high volume... And at half the price! Darn, I was hoping they'd put the handles on the tops, making it easy to carry two at a time, through doorways, etc. No such luck. Still, these look very interesting. My soul band was talking about putting together a less-cobbled PA for party gigs, and these would be top candidates for mains, and something I'd consider owning myself for use as monitors or mains. Electro Fan
Hammonddave, Thanks for the advice regarding working a deal with Pro Audio Star. 33% discount seems like a high starting point, but I guess that gives more room for counter offers. Do they typically come back with a flat offer or do they continue to accept counter offers? Do they typically come back with a flat offer or do they continue to accept counter offers? Thanks, Bill Depends on your negotiating skills and how much they want to move the product. In this case I initially offered $315 each for two, they came back with $360, and we settled at $330. My friend brought over his K10 last night to A/B the two, and he was totally blown away. The K10's are just too boomy in the midrange, and have little bass response, where the EV's have a really nice even sound, and the bass kicks the QSC's ass! The acoustic piano patches really highlight the differences between the two speakers... The APs sounded flat on the QSC, and really nice on the EV.... He is now selling is K10 for $500 and will buy two EVs for $660 just like I did. dongna
The zxa1's are grossly underpowered in comparison. So then have the ZXA1's, given that they are more expensive than the ZLX12-P's, been complete superseded by them? Or do the ZXA1's still have some redeeming qualities that merit consideration over the ZLX12-P's?

AnotherScott
Yes, 19 lbs vs. 34.4 lbs. Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! JeffLearman
There are handles on the top, bottom, and side... Pretty easy to carry these. Thanks. The handles on top and bottom are at the back edge, and it doesn't look like they'd work well for carrying two at a time through a doorway: they'd hang at an angle rather than vertically. Those handles look perfect for setting it on a pole, though. Still, given what you all are saying and the price point, they might be just the ticket. Dispersion is 90x60, which would be good for mains for party gigs, a bit less ideal for stage monitors but doable. Any advice for powered subwoofers that would mate nicely, for use as mains? HammondDave
They do have subs made for these... I believe they are 18 inches. ELX 18's. Heard them at the NAMM demo and they sounded great! But for keyboards you really do not need subs for these. They have excellent bass response. HammondDave
The handles on the top and bottom do make it a bit awkward as the speakers do tilt a bit when picking them up from the top, but you can also use the side handles to carry them ina nd out of doorways . The only disadvantage that I have seen so far is that the top is slanted, making it difficult to stack one speaker on top of the other. Fusker
One disadvantage is you can't sling these things around like passive monitors...the rear panel calls for these to get a bit more attention when loading, a padded cover is a must have.
