I wonder what he would be playing in Chicago, as far as gear is concerned.

I doubt he will be dragging his silver B-3 clear out there.

This may be an opportunity for a gear rental for someone who has a Hammond in Chicago. Or something like a Key B.

It will be interesting also to see what he uses for amplification. Most of us know that Brian doesn't use a leslie. In this regard I was highly influenced by him, as I discovered that ( for me) a primary "go to" sound can be the first three drawbars out with chorus and percussion , and no leslie spinning.

Of course Brian uses second harmonic, whereas a lot of other people use third harmonic.

There are probably still examples of him on Youtube playing a Numa , and as far as I am concerned he got it to sound like Brian Auger.

He's out doing a number of dates with Jeff Golub to support the new album. It should be a great show. I saw him at Nighttown in Cleveland back in May. I hadn't seen him since '05 and now he's in his 70's so I was worried he might have dropped a step. I couldn't have been more wrong. He came in an hour before the gig and circulated around the dining room greeting people, signing albums and having pictures taken. He was just the warmest, most sincere person. Than he got on stage with players half his age and blasted the room wide open. Catching a Brian Auger show is always a special experience and he always gives 110%. Enjoy the show.

...I saw Auger in '10 in an extremely small venue.

His son, daughter, and a bassist made up the band; but-make no mistake-the show is about Brian Auger and his Hammond.

If you want to see a keyboard legend in performance up close, do not miss this or any opportunity to see Brian Auger...

Jim Alfredson also playing in Chicago on September 6th at the House of Blues. I may not be around for either. :(

Dang...I have a gig that night. Love that place...play there pretty regularly. If you see this Jim, make sure you guys bring a Sharpie to the dressing rooms. Autographing the bathroom walls is an expected ritual. :D

A few decades after the trend started, it's getting harder to name your band after a city. I saw "Akron" a few weeks ago, and it was not $3.28 well spent.

Saw Brian Auger a couple of times in the '80s. He was touring with Colin Hodgkinson, Spencer Davis and Peter York and those nights are firmly etched into my memory (little else is from that time!)

Incredible speed, but more importantly great musicality and he did an excellent job of backing all the other musicians.

Can't remember what he was using - some patch on a digi keyboard - but it certainly wasn't a Hammond. Played by Auger, it still sounded hellish!

He played a KORG Polysix for a long time,- also w/ Eric Bourdon.

The endcaps of that Polysix say "VOCE",- so it might be there was a VOCE V5 built in or he controlled it w/ the Polysix.

Just got back from the Jeff Golub show. Definitely had some entertaining moments although music-wise not a great show. These guys were not tight to say the least and Jeff Golub seemed clueless when it came to Brian's Oblivion Express stuff. Brian was quite the ham and hilarious of course. Probably one of the few who can carry off an impromptu 2 minute ad lib when say your Kronos needs to be rebooted - which it did. This was the first time I saw him where it wasn't his band - too bad. Still those classic Brian Auger B3 solos were worth the price of admission and Brian did have his musical moments. Just not when he was singing.

Sad !

Well, they´re promoting the Golub record and IMO, the closest Brian Auger Oblivion Express lineup worth visiting is the one w/ Alex Ligertwood, Karma Auger, Les King and Fred Clark.

For the germans in october ... Bluesgarage

There are 3 vids on Youtube w/ this lineup,-

Real Rhodes on B3 and a guitar player again.

Does that mean Brian used a Kronos and it happened to him ?

Sorry to hear that review, but I'm still going to see him this Thursday at Yoshi's. Auger was second to none for me in my formative years. With his age and as infrequently as he tours, it's still a can't miss show. And geez, the band should be tightened up a little by then!

Yup- Kronos 88 on top of a B3. After the first couple of songs he said something was locked up and restarted the board. No one can fill up 2 minutes with entertaining banter better than Brian.

Yeah - it could have been a fluke, their monitoring or just a bad night. Who knows (besides them). And of course easy for me to throw stones at Jeff Golub after all he's been through. Hope to hear a better review from you Adan

Caught Jeff Golub/Brian Auger at Yoshi's in San Francisco last night and the show was phenomenal. Brian son was playing drums and his daughter Ali sang the Oblivion Express material ( Happiness is just round the Bend, Whenever you're ready). Bass player was really excellent also. Brian had his rig ( "sparkly" B3, and a Rhodes 73 with Hot Rod red cover...). I made the quality decision to have dinner there which got us better seats.

I think the family lineup brought the show up many notches over the performance Markyboard saw.

Great musicianship and very high energy. Really an inspiration to see someone of that caliber perform live! Got to shake his hand after the show and got an autographed CD.

I'm sorry I missed it. There was a show my wife wanted to see, kind of equally rare in these parts -- Meshiya Lake from New Orleans. Usually I make these decisions selfishly but this time I actually did the good husbandly thing.
