whitefang
Yikes. When some of us were younger, all our "heros" died of OD's, or accidents. Now we're getting to where they'll start dying of natural causes or complications due to Alzhiemer's. Or illnesses that somebody much younger would breeze through. Sorry Allen. It's gonna be strange listening to "Don't Fear The Reaper" for a while. Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left! desertbluesman
I liked that band back in the late 60's or early 70's, I never knew the band members names, but I did like their work. So RIP Allen, you lasted a bunch longer than some of your contemporaries. dbm If it sounds good, it is good !! http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=143231&content=music
Caevan O’Shite
Oh, man! That's too bad. He played some GREAT stuff on some really unusual, great songs. I love a lot of BÖC! skipclone 1
Oh man, a group of my buds in N.Y. were major fans. I saw them live with The Dictators, we almost got beat up by their security guys cause a few of us were spinning bottle caps at them-our guys were there to see Cult, period. Eric Bloom was nuts, he walked back and forth in from of monitors as tall as he was like it was nothing. Still love `Agents of Fortune`, `Fire of Unknown Origin`-forget it, those guys were major. RIP, he will be missed. Dannyalcatraz
I only got to see them play live once. It was EPIC! It was in a club (!) in Austin in the 1990s: the opening band was Black Pearl (fronted by criminally underappreciated Lisa Tingle), then Galactic Cowboys, and with BÖC headlining. Austin's own Black Pearl kicked serious ass. Galactic Cowboys' keyboard player that evening was drunk off his ass and kept nearly falling on me and my broken foot & crutches, When Houston's GC took the stage, they made a comment about just getting signed...but their intoxicated keyboard player rendered their set into an awful (offal?) mess. Then BÖC took the stage... Getting to see them play on a club stage was simultaneously exhilarating and disappointing. It was awesome to see Buck Dharma and the boys so up close & personal, playing NOTHING but their best stuff...and playing it as well as it could be played. It was disappointing in that they SHOULD have been playing a stadium. Still...a magical night. Sturgeon's 2nd Law, a.k.a. Caevan O’Shite
__________ [video:youtube] "In Thee" - Allen Lanier / Blue Öyster Cult "Maybe I'll see you again baby And maybe I won't Maybe you've bought your ticket Gone back to Detroit Airplanes make strangers of us all Give us distance Much too easily. Jim says some destinies Should not be delivered But you and I seen now baby That still they are Winning it makes losers of us all 'Cause the dice roll So indifferently. [Chorus:] Well, I'll wrap myself in cities I travel I'll wrap myself in dreams I'll wrap myself in solitude ["stranger's arms" for 3rd chorus] But I wish I could wrap myself In thee. Tonight it's hot, without you Tomorrow'll be cold Winter will come along Driven by snow Love it makes strangers of us all When we part Oh so thoughtlessly [Chorus] Once we breathed the breath Of sweet surrender Pure, pure Arab air filled our Atmosphere But pride it makes stars of us all Until we fall For everyone to see...
