vr09 replacement Power supply HELP!

The original part from roland has model number PSB-1U.

The VR-09 power supply outputs 9V DC at 2A (18W), connector is a standard barrel type with center pin negative.

Since there are many sizes of "standard" barrel type connectors: external diameter is 5.5mm, internal diameter 2.1mm, plug is 10mm long.

You may be able to find a replacement power supply that suits your need at a good electrician shop, or a shop that sells electronic components specifically. Maybe even one of those one size fits all power supply at the nearest drugstore.

You need something that can handle 2A or more (although that seems quite high, i bet a 1A power supply would be sufficient), outputs 9V and whose plug is wired the same.

something like that should fit (buy at your own risk), the specifications matches:

The exact same product at digikey:

Nothing suitable in stock at mouser...

Otherwise, did you try calling Roland ? They may have a PSU in stock to send with an express courrier...

Be careful if you buy anything other than the Roland replacement power supply. If you buy a third party power supply, make sure that the voltage is the same, it has the same amperage or more, the barrel plug is the correct size, and that the power supply is regulated so that you are insured that the voltage does not float high or sag.

Hope you find this helpful.

Yeh went to rad shack none of their tips fit deep enuf into the weird black ring around the VR09 :( im gonna visit guitar crnter tommorow in hopes theyy have one

Thanks Roland  ! I had a somewhat similar experience when I upgraded from an Edirol PCR-M80 keyboard to my current A800 Pro. I didn't bother buying an AC adapter for the A800 since I had one for the M80. Same voltage, current, and the connectors fit perfect. Except for one minor detail they reversed the polarity (I found that out at the gig)!

Luckily, since the A800 is able to be powered by USB, I just hooked up my iPhone charger. Worked great! Unfortunately it looks like the VR09 can't be powered that way.

The datasheet for the power adapter listed above explicitely states that the tip of the plug is 11mm long (the original roland adapter is 10mm long).

Losing a power supply sucks.

Roland and Boss use the PSB-1U for many products; It is their most common model. I have several that came with my Boss pedal board, my VR-09, my Gaia, and I think my Edirol FA-101. You might even find a local Roland dealer that has it in stock.

At least you can run the VR-09 on batteries until you get the replacement.
