Eon g2 15" replace with what?

Recommended Posts

Last night I blew out a circuit in trusty eon

I don't recall the models guitar center suggested to replace eon 15 g2. But I was dismayed an Ev 2 way was lack luster. And whatever model jbl I tried out also was less than te g2

I have done sone research on eons. Apparently they sound fuller because they reproduce at lower frequencies. Than. The others

I am not a fan of subs. So I think ( at this point ) I want to avoid subs

Also this I own K 10's and as a beefy single 10. They don't quite do what the 15 does to these ears

I am flexible about. Weight and price point, in other words Eon 15 is around 50 lbs. that's acceptable to me. Even a little heavier.

Now here's the thing if something weights a good bit more and really sounds appreciably BETTER than the Eon. ( I prefer people who LIKE OR LIKED eons. NOT ppl who don't like EONS in the first place.! ). That unnamed speaker will likely cost over a 1000 dollars. That's ok too.

Eon 15 slayer !!

If you really want an EON 15G2, one of my two is not in use. Immaculate, no scratches, working well. I have the JBL soft case for it, and the original box.

Send a PM if interested - I won't sell it for a lowball price, but it has been sitting for over a year (the K10's are a lot easier to move around).

Just read a report from a guy using the DXR Yamaha 10s, DXR 10 review.

I know you weren't asking for stereo, but I was intrigued with the cool setup they made available: you can bring in up to two stereo keyboards to one of these speakers, and with one cable and a flip of a switch have stereo sound!

I've heard fantastic things about the DXR's including their 3 channels of mixer on the back and their big, deep sound; you might be able to reach your bass satisfaction with only the 12" version.

Another speaker that gets a lot of love on the Harmony Central Live Sound and Prod forum is the RCF 310 and 312a, both under $450 and having a very good sound and lots of power.

If you want two EON 15G2 in great shape with JBL soft cases and original boxes, make me an offer I can't refuse.

This begs the question, what is a fair price and a lowball price?

Really?? Ok

Why did you go to the police , why didn't you come to me first???

You'll have to excuse me, I'm a little drunk and I want everyone here to know, there's not gonna be no trouble from me! Don Corleone, Cicci a porta!

Are you happy now?

What did you replace G2's with? What volume do you play at? Use subs?

On a slightly more serious note, cause some of you guys are very serious..

I played the DXR 15 as well as some larger QSC, in the 1200 dollar range a 2 way and a 3 way. I am undecided.

In deceiding to upgrade- I think there is a combination of what ones ear is used to

The balance one is used to between ( roughly speaking ) the highs mids lows

and most importantly the volume you are listening to them at ( and playing them at ) I play from soft to med volumes.

About 4 months ago I replaced my two G2 15's with two of the newer EON 515 XTs. The XT's weigh 32 lbs each, a big reduction in weight from the G2s and the way the XTs are designed with the re-designed handle locations makes them much easier to carry. I think they sound very good...and have plenty of power. I paid $435 each online, absolutely brand new, no tax or shipping. I am a happy camper.

EV SXA360s, which were stolen recently. I play no louder than necessary and encourage others to do the same. Medium to low I suppose. And no, I don't use subs as in subwoofers. I do use subs as in substitutes, deputies, and mercenaries. :)

The EONs aren't particularly flat. I always roll off the low end. They aren't as clear in the midrange as the EVs. They get harsh in the high end at higher volume. I wouldn't use them for PA mains again. I used them about a year ago as front line vocal monitors and they sounded great. Their biggest problem is their bulk. There are lots of attractive options in packages half the size and weight these days.

One QSC K8 is plenty of stage monitor for me. I've heard a pair of them them do an outstanding job of full range PA with no subs outdoors covering a few hundred people. I just picked up four of them. Based on the strong recommendations of Jim Alfredson and Bill Levinson I'm inclined to just buy a pair of DXR10s to replace the stolen EVs.

Given that a fair price and a lowball price for the EONs might be in the same neighborhood, I'll probably be able to refuse any offer I'm likely to get.

I also replaced my JBL EON15 G2s with EON 515XTs, which were less expensive and are considerably lighter. The voicing is slightly different - a tad less at the top and bottom ends (which is a good thing) and a tad more in the midrange (which gives a bit more warmth and presence), making them smoother overall. I use them with a Hammond XK3c or XK1 and Kurzweil SP4-7, and am very happy with them.

So how did you "flatten" the response. a mixer, or just the controls i the Eon itself?

About that other "thing", I can't remember the last time that you invited me to your house for a cup of coffee, even though my wife is godmother to your only child. But let's be frank here: you never wanted my friendship. And uh, you were afraid to be in my debt.

I just purchased a JBL PRX615M. It probably has more power than a lot of folks need, but my band tends to play loud. I also play LHB on a couple of tunes, and have always enjoyed using a monitor with a 15" woofer. I guess it's just a sound I've become accustomed to hearing. The 615M has a very full, clean sound. The first time I played out with it I accidentally had the bass/high boost engaged, which was way too boomy. I then discovered my mistake and switched the control to the "flat" position, but even then the bass needed to be tamed a little. For piano, I use the EQ on my Nord Stage to adjust the bass and mids and now things are fine. I like being in a position were I have enough bass capacity such that I can dial in more bass, as needed (i.e., than to not have enough bass capacity to begin with) in order to achieve the fullest possible sound.

Tee, when you're trying out new powered speakers in a store, be aware of the "sub out" switches and how they work. Probably 90% of people who are looking at these speakers are DJ's not keyboard players and DJ's like lots of bass. The sub out acts as a high pass filter and truncates the lowest 100hz or so because a sub would be handling those freq's. That in turn really cleans up the bottom end of the sound for keys. Some speakers also have EQ switches for vocals or instruments. The first time I played my EV ELX112P at a gig the bass was overpowering and muddy for piano and organ but the sub switch cured it and it's probably the best keyboard amp I'm yet used.

You should go online and read the spec sheets for these before heading to a store otherwise you don't know how to set them up for a proper test.
