The custom painted "keytar" on the big stage

Self indulgent post. We got the pics from our professional photographer from our show the other night.

I finally got to debut the Alesis Vortex that I painted a while back and was the subject of it's own thread detailing the process.

I think the color looks good, and I received a lot of positive feedback from the audience afterwards.

My own guilty pleasure :)

Great pic! Sweet paint job! Just curious ... are you running the Vortex via a wireless MIDI system (and if so, which one?)

Thanks!

No, no wireless yet. 20ft midi cable:)

I did find a company making a system with a transmitter mount designed specifically for the Vortex.

When I've used my Roland Ax, I only used internal sounds, and used my guitar wireless for that.

Very cool! Love the colour and sweet strap too. :rawk:

I think we need a keytar smiley...

:)

Yeah, I'm not a small boy, the the usual straps that come with these things for kids with 24 inch waist lines don't quite work :)

I used the midi jet pro, incredible distance with no drop-outs for my ax7. switched over to ax synth so I sold the midi jet pro. try the midi jet pro, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the tip, I will check it out!

What song you are playing in this pic? I'm trying to think of the songs on which JC used a keytar, and I only recall him using one on the Raised on Radio tour. "Be Good to Yourself" perhaps?

Bingo!!

Yeah, I use it on the long ending of Be Good to Yourself. We do a transition into Anyway You Want It right out of Be Good, so I use it on that as well.

I also just found some rare videos from that '86 tour, Jonathan's using his Lync on a couple more songs as well.

Oh wow - that color really pops on stage. Love it. And I know you are hiding the pics of you on your knees shredding that thang!

LOL, at my age and with my knees..... if I did that I'd never get back up ;)

Looks awesome, nice work!

It has an organic, natural look to it, almost like copper or wood.

Thank you!!

The color is actually called Hammered Copper. It's a spray paint by Rust-Oleum.

For those of you who missed David's original thread about doing the paint job, here it is. If all you're interested in are better views of the keytar, just scroll through. :thu:

Nice color choice; makes it look vintage and classic.

Definitely, I want one now.

If you get one and decide to paint it, be REALLY REALLY careful with the body shell screws. Don't use a power screw driver or drill with phillips bit. It's very easy to strip out the plastic. Light pressure is all that's needed to release and then reassemble the shell halves.
