They are tools in the trade of making music. That said, it's possible to get a pretty wide range of tones out of modern guitars with modern pickup combinations, amp modeling, etc. With all due respect to everyone - don't expect the same sound as a pro who has $500,000 of leased tour gear and an expert soundman on his gigs.
