Groove Mama
Beautiful bass, beautiful color! Play it in good health! The only logical name for a bass that color is Steve. Actually, I'm thinking...P bass with LaBella flats...James, maybe? Queen of the Quarter Note "Think like a drummer, not like a singer, and play much less." -- Michele C. wraub
Naming an instrument for a man just seems.... wrong. And I tend to agree. My Pbass looks a lot like Willie Weeks' bass, but I don't think I'd call it my Willie. However, my fretted 5 string used to have stickers of Bill the Cat and Calvin on the front (Hobbes is on the back). The name Billvin still lingers, though. I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.
jeremy c
If you are going to get La Bella flats, don't get the Jamerson set. Get the regular Deep Talkin' Bass ones. The Jamerson set are super heavy gauge and could warp your bass neck. I use the Deep Talkin' ones in the studio and they record amazingly well. I don't really like to use them live, though. They don't cut through the band as well as roundwounds. Free download of my cd!.

butcherNburn
I never cared for La Bella's which may actually be a ringing endorsement for them. After trying them and giving them a pretty hard 5 hour workout and voicing my negative opinion here, I got feedback that it wasn't long enough break-in period. I tend to like older, broken in strings but if they show no promise after 5 hours I don't think there's any hope. My favorite flats were actually from Fender but I haven't been able to find that exact set in a very long time. I still think Sangria is the best name but with the name James, I'd end up calling it my Jimmy stick. Other ideas, "My Fender" "My P" etc. If you think my playing is bad, you should hear me sing! jcadmus
Glad I'm not the only one around here who's weird enough to name his basses. The 76 J-Bass is "The Booty Machine." My Pedulla Rapture J2-5 is "Bart." And my new Stringray 5 is "Buck," although "Beast" was a close runner-up. "The Booty Machine"? Wow. And I see all your names start with B. I'm very perceptive like that. Because it delivers so much booty. All your basses are red, and are named accordingly. All mine are 'burst finishes, and have names starting with "b." wraub
Sadly, when I hear that name I also think of the beloved Mrs. H above. Wouldn't want to name my bass that, or anything else.
