How about Merlot. @wraub, I don't do red either but do own a midnight wine jazz bass and when looking at it in person doesn't appear red at all. I would think the photo here appears more red than it actually is.

Candy Brandy Wine

(that was the name of the custom color used on a car I had seen)

You can always use a regular name like Roger, Jeffery or Sue. I always said that if I ever have another dog, I'd give him or her a "human" name.

If you think my playing is bad, you should hear me sing!

... Ruby Tuesday

Who's gonna hang a name on you?

Ruby, or Rubes for short.

Great suggestion, but my SB14 is already named Ruby. Can't give the same name to two of my kids...although I guess George Foreman did that to 5 of his kids.

I have a friend with a dog named Jeffrey. I thought that was great. And hilarious.

Some good ideas here. Keep 'em comin'!

Note:

Left = red; right = not red (still looks redder in pic than in real life, though, probably because of artificial lighting)

Black basses are louder.

Red basses are faster.

Blue basses are cooler.

Darn -- all my basses are sunburst. Where does that leave me?

All my basses are also sunburst. Or natural. Or black. Or white. I'm Mr.Excitement, me.

Can't recall if I've ever owned a red bass...

I had my teacher test the new P, and here's the biggest apparent flaw on this bass:

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm28/nhopp/image_zps5b64dc9d.jpg

Volume knob is high; tone knob looks like it's bent. I had the seller switch out the white knobs originally pictured for the chrome knobs and the black pick guard for an extra $20.

Doesn't seem to affect function. Is it worth complaining about?

Seller asked for feedback, so I sent him the knob picture. He apologized and said they fit kind of tight and he didn't notice they were cockeyed and high (?). Anyway, he said he would send me a new pair with set screws.

That could be a fairly easy fix with the knobs. There's a set screw in each knob that would allow you to vary the knob placement on the pot shaft.

Changing the pickguard on a P-Bass can lead to a misalignment of the pot shafts. Getting those straightened out should be pretty simple. A hex wrench can do the job pretty easily. But you need to be a little careful with the wiring to and from the pot in the control cavity.

Glad I'm not the only one around here who's weird enough to name his basses.

The 76 J-Bass is "The Booty Machine." My Pedulla Rapture J2-5 is "Bart." And my new Stringray 5 is "Buck," although "Beast" was a close runner-up.

There's your names right there: the P bass shall be named...

"Not Red".

It has been spoken, so it is.

:D

I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.

Garnet has a bit more of a brownish tone, not really what you have there.

Carmine sounds kinda cool.

Jeremy had a good idea with Merlot, but I'd take that down to Merlie.

In Greek, the word for the highest quality wine is Oinos (OY-noss), but I think the only virtue of naming a bass that is that nobody ever called a bass that before.

But, in looking at a site with wine teminology, I ran across the word "Plonk" which is defined as "a derogatory name for cheap, poor-tasting wine". I think we have a winer...er winner...

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

Actually, Jeremy had the other red wine Cabernet, on my rare occasions of having a drink that is what I have. I was going to post that and saw that Jeremy did and I went for the Merlot, my second choice for red wine as well.

If you're going to name your bass for a wine, name it Pinot (or Pino). Because I'm not playing any *#@^ing Merlot!

Good one!

"The Booty Machine"? Wow.

And I see all your names start with B. I'm very perceptive like that.
