Based on the 808 but I liked the blend idea in both Sparkle Drives but this one has different types of drive.

My leading contender to be my new OD is this one or the Wampler Euphoria. But the Wampler is $200.

EDIT: CEB'S Sparkle Drive post above had not yet displayed on my end when I typed the following, but I heartily concur! 'I am Caevan O'Shite and I approve of this message.' :thu:

Check out the Voodoo lab Sparkle Drive and Sparkle Drive MOD; GREAT idea, it's essentially a high-quality Tube Screamer with the added bonus of a blendable clean/direct signal, the MOD having additonal features. You will not be disappointed in the blendable-straight-signal feature, it allows you to easily get MORE of whatever you already liked about a Tube Screamer, and more...

I played a visual sound Route 808 the other day...sounded great, just like a you know what. And of course it was green.

There was a recent thread discussing the glut of OD boxes out there....sounds like your about to live it out.

Keep us informed :)

Someone recently posted a list of ALL the OD pedals loosely based on the Tube Screamer circuit, and the list was lo-o-ong. The good news is that there are a bunch of affordable alternatives. If you want to go for slightly less cash, and a less compressed sound, the good old Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive should do everything you need, for about $50US. The DOD Bad Monkey is even a little cheaper, IIRC.

I just replaced the Route 66. It's overdrive section is the 808. Used it for years. I always liked it. My version 1 pedal ended up with a cracked PC board due to a road mishap similar to what took out your Tube Screamer. But I had it repaired and went through some switches and the power insert ended up with a short. It was a good pedal it has just been through Hell and back.

Good news is the cases on the Version 2 stuff are tanks. That new case design is not just for looks.

That's kind of like the old Samsonite commercial with the gorilla baggage handler throwing and stomping on luggage...very impressive!

That MIGHT even be roadie proof.

I am really liking what I'm hearing with the MXR Custom Badass distortion pedal. It has 3 bands of eq instead of 1, it has very usable sounds all the way from a mildly dirty boost to raging shred that will get you dirty looks at the local blues club, and everything between. Personally, the VS Route 66 pedal didn't do it for me. It had an upper mid frequency in it I couldn't dial out of it. I did really like what I heard from the VS Jeckyl & Hyde pedal, but it sounded more like a gainy Marshall all the way up than a milder overdrive. Maybe you could get that out of it if it was dialed in the right way. Seriously, check out the MXR Custome Badass pedal. I think it has way more adjustabilty than the TS clones.

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

Hi, Harvey,

The OD/DS effects in the GT-3 & GT-5 are built around an analog OD circuit, rather than digital modeling, part of why they're fun to work with. To the best of my knowledge, they weren't intended to model specific boxes, but offer different 'flavors' of OD. I tend to use Vintage OD or Distortion2, with a Clean Twin amp model. Fuzz was the least satisfying of the OD/DS sounds, IMHO, and I've never heard anyone get a particularly convincing Tube Screamer sound out of the GT-3/5, either.

The newer GT- and ME- series processors use COSM modeling for their OD effects, and most of their OD/DS effects are modeled after specific pedals.

BTW, have you retired your GT-3?

That is a different one. I tried out a Badass 78 and liked it. I might have gotten it if I played in a rock band.

Wow, very impressive. I even liked the distortion at zero!

Btw, great video showing heaps of settings and guitar volume clean ups. Those videos that spend 5 minutes describing the device - "and this is the level control, it sets the overall level of the effect" - and two minutes on the actual sound of the thing are annoying.
