SHaka40
So...I usually don't post random Youtube videos that I come across--there are so many good ones (amongst the heaps of garbage). But this one stands out to me for some reason. I was looking around at some of vocalist Gretchen Parlato's live videos and I came across this video. It's a young woman named Rachel Flowers covering Gretchen's song "Me and You" from her album Lost and Found (great album by the way): [video:youtube] Maybe I'm overstating it because I like the original song so much, but wasn't that a cool little performance--and a tastey solo! Apparently Flowers is a prodigy of sorts. I don't know if she's "famous" per say (most of her videos are in a home or private setting), but she should be! She also plays other instruments if I'm not mistaken. A quick google search turned up an article on synthopia about her. Apparently she's really deep into prog rock as well as jazz and well...everything else. p.s. here's the original for reference: [video:youtube] --Sean H. mate stubb
She is famous around here for being able to nail ELP tunes. Keith is a fan - he sent his giant synth to her house for her to have fun with. There's a thread about that somewhere around here. SHaka40
Ah. My bad. Should've done a search first. But still, what do you guys think about the video (or the original song for that matter). On a side note, can any of you guys give me the progression on the main hook/verse? Guess my ears aren't developed enough to hear the changes, or whatever voicings they're using are not natural to me yet. --Sean H. wmp
I like both a lot. A lot of that isn't in my vocabulary yet either. --wmp
Tusker
But still, what do you guys think about the video (or the original song for that matter). The song has got into my head and refuses to leave. Really a great tune. Thanks for turning me onto Gretchen Parlato. Jerry
David Loving
Man the Gretchen Parlato Youtube is wonderful. Who's playing the Rhodes? "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown."
SHaka40
Man the Gretchen Parlato Youtube is wonderful. Who's playing the Rhodes? Taylor Eigsti plays piano and rhodes on the album. All of the musicians on the album are top notch. If you look at her live videos though, she's typically backed by a trio of drums, bass (typically acoustic), and keys: rhodes and acoustic piano in L formation. I don't know if that is Taylor or a different pianist though. --Sean H. Yamaha MOXF8, Korg TR76, Novation X-Station 61, Casio PX-
Kelly Gibson
Nice playing on both versions of that song. Thanks for posting.
