Bossbandbob
I could use some help on the drawbar settings starting a 3:00 in this video of Tom Petty's Woman in Love. I have tried various settings like 808500000 but can't get that "whistling" sound quite right as it is a recorder or flute-like sound. Steve Nathan
You can't match one organ for another just by figuring out the magic drawbar setting, let alone match a clone of some sort to a real Hammond, but you're way off with that first drawbar pulled out to 8. Push one and two all the way in, three at 8 and use your ears from there. Plus, it's not a static setting either. He is adjusting throughout that section. Don't rush me. I'm playing as slowly as I can! http://www.stevenathanmusic.com/stevenathanmusic.com/HOME.html https://apple.co/2EGpYXK
Bossbandbob
Thanks for your advice Steve. I can get close to the sound I'm looking for in that section now on my Hammond A101 at 30830000. All the way out on the 16' was a bit too much. Although I have only played it for a couple of years (being trained on piano), and still have a lot to learn, I'm very well aware that Benmont, like most great Hammond players, constantly adjusts the drawbars and that no two Hammonds sound the same. mate stubb
+1 to Steve's prescription. Build upper sparse harmonics on top of a full 8' bar, and it cuts surprisingly well without overwhelming the mix.
