Joe Muscara
Could be cool. Maybe even better if Apple bought it and integrated it. (I didn't read the whole thing so I don't know if that's likely or possible.) "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! midinut
Not sure either. Someone posted about Apple phasing Logic out so I'm not real sure what the dedication level towards music is at Apple anymore. It'll be interesting to watch. Would be very cool to be able to take an iPad out as a full functioning ROMpler though, wouldn't it? MIDI it up to your favorite controller and viola! Okay, one can dream ... AnotherScott
Not sure either. Someone posted about Apple phasing Logic out so I'm not real sure what the dedication level towards music is at Apple anymore. I haven't seen anything about that that wasn't idle speculation. It seems unlikely that they are moving away from music having purchased Redmatica and not yet done anything with any of their technology. Unless they just wanted them off the market for some other unknown reason. Would be very cool to be able to take an iPad out as a full functioning ROMpler though, wouldn't it? MIDI it up to your favorite controller and viola! Not just violas, but all kinds of strings. Brass too! ;-) Actually, I've been starting to experiment with bringing in the iPad as a sound source. The app described in this thread is for sending audio from one app to another, but there is also already MIDIBridge for sending MIDI from one app to another, and there are already music apps that can run in the background and be assigned their own MIDI channel, so you can run multiple MIDI apps at once... memory and processor power permitting. Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)
Jazzmammal
I just found this today, there's a whole series of videos about it. Sampletank IRig Midi Also the new Casio WK7500 is an interesting keyboard for $500. I saw a vid with it doing basically the same thing, it was playing Garageband sounds on an IPad through USB. Bob Hammond SK1, Mojo 61, Kurzweil PC3, Korg Pa3x, Roland FA06, Band in a Box, Real Band, Studio One, too much stuff...
dazzjazz
I have Sampletank with their iRig MIDI and its essentially a toy. Useable in a pinch but not pro quality sounds or hardware. Fine for the price though. www.dazzjazz.com PhD in Jazz Organ Improvisation. BMus (Hons) Jazz Piano. 1961 A100.Leslie 45 & 122. MAG P-2 Organ. Kawai K300J. Yamaha CP4. Moog Matriarch. KIWI-8P. dta3923
It maybe useable in a pinch, but I also wonder about the battery life of the iPad itself and playing for extended periods, ie. several sets of music. does the iRig MIDI also deliver voltage to keep the iPad battery charged? I'm thinking not. Dan - Kronos 73, Yamaha S90ES, Hammond XK-3, Ventilator.

I'm thinking not. There is a micro USB port for charging on the side of the iRig. Too much stuff, too little time, too few gigs, should spend more time practicing...! 🙄 main instruments: Nord Stage 3 compact, Yamaha CP88, Kurzweil PC4, Viscount KeyB Legend Live
RABid
I think the iPad needs a lot more power and memory to compete with a MacBookPro or even a MacBookAir as a ROMpler. I've got most of the iPad istruments and in my opinion they are not up to the sound quality of decent ROMplers. This post edited for speling.
