Anyone played with one of these? Thoughts. Yeh I have a Vent. But on the vids this really seems to grind in a good way. This is the sort of sound I'm hoping for:

Gig keys: Hammond SKpro, Korg Vox Continental, Crumar Mojo 61, Crumar Mojo Pedals

Kinda funny... a box to make a real Hammond and Leslie sound more like a real Hammond and Leslie...

Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)

Nah. Won't hurt a thing. If anything it makes running with overdrive easier on the amp and Leslie drivers since you're not running everything full-tilt to get the overdriven tone. The object of a zener-diode overdrive is to get an overdriven tone without overdriving the amp, allowing the player to get dirt at lower volumes and save wear on the treble driver. It's not like a guitar amp power soak that attenuates the signal after the power amp and before the speakers, it goes inline between the preamp output and the input of the Leslie amplifier. At higher distortion levels the zener-diode overdrive actually attenuates the signal going to the amplifier. It is no different than using the digital overdrive on a clonewheel and running that into the Leslie, you're pre-distorting the signal before it hits the Leslie.

The schematic is out there if anyone wants to roll their own. I may incorporate this circuit in an E-100 chop I've started work on.

You can make a simple one yourself (like I did) with 3 diodes, a cap and a 3 way switch for high, low and OD off, running off the gg terminals. I have been using this for at least 2 years on my Hammond A101 with no problems. It works well on lower volumes and actually can sound good combined with the Vent as well. IMO used alone it sounds better than the OD on older Clones and sim pedals or SS amps with OD effects but is not quite as creamy as the OD on the Vent. It will give more of a Jon Lord effect on high.

The Kon unit does give you more options than the one I made, however.
