zephonic
It's probably not so good for non-Logic users, like me. If they incorporate Redmatica's titles into Logic or EXS it is good for you, but I'm not sure that is the case. I expect them to discontinue the original products and use the technology in Garageband.
kanker.
Here's the thing from a Logic user's perspective - EXS is OLD. It's way ancient, and the Redmatica guys built a much better interface for programming EXS. GarageBand relies heavily on EXS, and Logic desperately needs a better sampler instrument. Buying Redmatica will get a team of guys who really understand EXS and it's deficiencies on the case so that Apple can develop a very modern sampler and sample playback device for not only GarageBand, Logic and Mainstage, but also for iOS.... jimmymio
I'm a long time user of Redmatica EXS Pro. It's a great program and i would love to see it integrated into Logic. I'd also really love to see EXS get a major rehaul. 1935 Mason & Hamlin Model A Korg Kronos 2 73 Nord Electro 6D 61 Yam S90ES Rhodes Stage 73 (1972)

History tells us they will eventually ignore (my polite term) Redmatica customers that already use the product, integrate it into Apple software, and charge for it as an upgrade. Geoff Grace
Yeah, I presume Apple will discontinue Redmatica's products and will use its technology and personnel to make better Apple products. However, I'd be surprised if GarageBand were to be the main beneficiary of the acquisition. I'm not sure the typical GarageBand user wants to get under the hood and edit samples. Don't get me wrong, I can see ways that GarageBand could improve from this; but I think Logic Pro could benefit more--in fact, much more. Sven Golly
Integrate it. Add some new instruments and samples and effects. $199 upgrade. That'll be a pretty hard sell, considering Logic Pro is $199 on the App Store (and no longer available via retail channels). Frankly, I'm happy to think that EXS may get an upgrade from this, but if they remove Kontakt support (which they will no doubt do if this acquisition rumour proves to be true), then that will be tragic. Bobadohshe
One commenter on the link above is talking about how Redmatica could be used to chop us transients in Siri and thus make Siri much beefier instantly. That'd be interesting. What do you mean by 'remove Kontakt support'? Clonk AutoSampler is what I was planning on using to get my hardware synth patches into Kontakt so I can officially retire them. Not interested in EXS format, nor do I want to have to rely on a second step like ChickenSys Translator to convert them. Guess I'll have to make sure I buy it before Apple kills it. burningbusch
Looks like he's taking the money and running. Just got this in email: "Dear Redmatica Customer,After eight wonderful years of developing creative sampling tools, I have decided to close Redmatica to pursue other interests. Thank you for all your patronage! Andrea Gozzi, Founder" His products were full-featured and fairly expensive but didn't work as well as the promotional videos would leave you to believe (at least for me). So I guess it's good news if you're a user of Apple audio products. As I'm not I just want to say to Andrea, "thanks for leaving me high and dry." Busch. AnotherScott
I almost bought AutoSampler, but was disappointed that it did not support the soundfont format. Like Sven says, you could address that with Chicken Sys, but that adds complication and another vendor to try to deal with for support if you have issues (with the accompanying potential for finger pointing). (And the translator is more expensive than the autosampler!) Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Joe Muscara
Is Redmatica pretty much one guy? If so, it's likely Apple is hiring him to join their team. They've done it before. The guy that developed the Notifications in iOS 5 originally did it for the jailbreak version. This is also similar to what Facebook has done, where they really were bringing the developers into the company more than their specific products. I bet it's something Steve told Zuck to do. The talent is more important than the products in the long run. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! Joe Muscara
I was hitting it when I wrote my previous post, and it was really slow. I wondered if something was going on at the time. Sorry for those of you who are losing out, but hopefully this is good for Logic, GB, and other things like that from Apple. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! Analogaddict
Resurrecting a thread; I just learned that Apple bought Redmatica and Keymap is no more. Did anyone download the latest updates and/or have the installer or even the App Store version handy? I'm on version 1,5 and it won't open in OS X 10.6.8... If anyone has the latest update, PLEASE send me a PM. I wasn't aware that the whole Redmatica site would disappear, and I need a functioning version of Keymap. I bought it and have all the serial numbers and stuff, just not the latest update...
