Busy with New Blood stuff I guess.

I've seen some concert footage with Peter and NB. Often wondered why some singers throw out their band in favor of an orchestra. Seems like a lot of work and it radically changes the flavor of their music. I'm so accustomed to how his material sounded back in the 80's it takes awhile to get used to this.

Has anyone seen him live with New Blood?

I saw it when it was in town.

At first I thought that Gabriel's voice would be the last thing I'd want to listen to with orchestra, but in the end I bought myself a ticket and went to the show.

It was very good.

Some of the bits like Rhythm Of The Heat were incredible.

What we record in life, echoes in eternity.

MOXF8, Electro 6D, XK1c, Motif XSr, PEKPER, Voyager, Univox MiniKorg.

I saw Peter Gabriel w/New Blood at Red Rocks about a year ago; great show. The arrangements of both old and new material ( some cover, as well) were well orchestrated. The pianist, conductor, and orchestra were top notch. Peter, and the two back-up vocalists gave a soulful, almost haunting performance. The visuals were world class, and beyond. Didn't miss the band at all. But, the new tour does intrigue me. It's supposed to hit Denver in September. Tempting....

I saw the same Red Rocks concert last summer. It was pretty amazing. Also saw his electric band in Los Angeles about 5 years ago. That was also amazing. He had the Blind Boys of Alabama with him.

I will see this concert at The Hollywood Bowl... If you have never seen him, don't let this opportunity pass you by,

I saw that tour with the Blind Boys too, here in Minneapolis. He also had his daughter Melanie playing keyboards.

I believe we were the opening night of that tour, but unfortunately it was plagued by technical difficulties. Several times (two? three?) when they were building to a musical peak, suddenly the entire PA mains went out. Really spoiled some potentially dramatic moments in the show. The band were true professionals and kept soldiering on right through it. During the the longest outage I think it morphed into an impromptu drum/percussion solo because that was about the only thing the audience could still hear unmiked in the Target Center arena, a pretty big space to fill...

I don't see them getting any closer than Chicago on the tour list right now. Poot.

Thank you for this. Although I've followed Gabriel since Trespass ...

So is one of my favorite albums. I am going enjoy this with my family. They know and love these songs.

Sancious will fit right in with this family of musicians. One of the greatest sidemen in the history of the rock/pop business. I realize that Gasparyan started to play with Gabriel after Last Temptation ... but he is also part of the family. I wonder if he will come?

I saw Gabriel twice on the SO tour, and 3 times since then. YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS! The band is always phenomenal (Tony Levin is worth the price of admission alone), I preferred Sancious, but Rachel Z was with him on a couple of tours, and she did NOT suck!

From a production standpoint, PG pushes the boundaries. He really succeeds in sucking you into an intimate peformance, you and 20,000 of your closes friends. On the SO tour, I remember him battling some moving robotic lights (truly robotic, not movers, they were on bending and stretching arms) on No Self Control, it was the creepiest thing I'd ever seen at that point; on the last tour I saw he was inside a bouncing ball with a camera...had a rowboat that circled the in-the-round stage. Brilliant stuff.

Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me.

The only time I've seen PG live was on the Us tour, and it was freakin' amazing. Choreographed, but real singing. I thought, "take that, Madonna!" :D

Well, yes... but the operative word here is "radically." I know many folks (including me) prefer a rock band versus an orchestra. Maybe I'm just too old and set in my ways, preferring songs to sound like the album.

I just can't choose a favorite Gabriel album. I listened to Melt this morning. Security was great.... Heck it's all great.

If you prefer the rock band, then don't go to the orchestra. Not sure I see a problem here. ;)

If you can't appreciate re-arrangements of tunes, you can always go watch Sting waste an orchestra on mimicking guitar parts for an evening. :thu:

Hahaha, Sven.

New Blood is incredible; I wanted to see the shows but I was touring myself. But the DVD is amazing.

I last saw Gabriel live in '92 for the Secret World tour. That was one of the best shows I've ever seen (and I developed tinnitus in my right ear because of it). Would love to see this tour but looks like I'll be on the road for most of the US dates. Boo.

True... What I was trying to say in my first post was; I honestly didn't think Peter would draw a large crowd with an orchestra. But yeah, if I'm in the minority here--which I guess I am--then there is no problem.

Rock on.

I saw the "So" tour back whenever it occurred and it was transcendent. I think he may be the only artist I've seen who takes a big stadium tour and makes it feel at once like a spectacular event but somehow also intimate. I felt like I was seeing someone masterful, at the top of his game. I feel really lucky to have seen that show.

Peter Gabriel is so good he would sell out doing an acoustic solo show armed only with only a megaphone and a kazoo

Enough of a crowd to play to (mostly? completely?) sold-out shows last year, yeah. ;)

Well, I learn something new every day. :)

Wouldn't have expected (mostly) sold-out shows, but he's obviously got a huge fan base. Can't argue with that.
