Best quality cables these days?

Recommended Posts

If you were to walk into GC (or wherever) to buy instrument cables, TRS Cables, and TRS to XLR what would you sink your money into? What brand is making the best cable for the money these days?

I make my own with Mogami, Canare, or Gepco wire, depending on the application, & Neutrik or Switchcraft connectors. As far as store-bought cables, I've been quite happy with a George L guitar cable a friend gave me. I will not only never purchase any Hosa cables I refuse to use them when given to me. Unreliable junk.

If you do a search, I think you'll find that many here have supported George L's for many years.

Howya keepin'? Good, I hope.

Howdy!

Things are gettin' better! Thanks!

Who carries George L. cables?

Edit: Never mind I found them. Looks like really good stuff, but I only need a couple of cables. I think I'll just order ready-made this time around.

Thanks, Scott. I see that Mogami has some made-up cables....would they be OK?

I have some ready made Mogami cables with molded plastic connectors that are fine for studio use but feel a bit light weight for stage work. Depends on what your application is. On a pedalboard they'd be great. Plugged into the guitar I'd want something with a metal plug & heat shrink for strain relief.

I've been using a couple of Whirlwind cables for approx 30 years or more and have only had to re-solder one ground connection that I yanked out by pulling the wire many times instead of the plug itself.

Last couple of years bought some Digitech cables with Neutrik connectors/plugs. Great price, pre-made, very flexible.

Wow. I don't buy cables. I have probably been using the same Belden wire and Switchcraft ends ( probably Rapco) for about 25 years.

Same here. I bought a huge length of Belden cable and a bag of Switchcraft ends, back in 1989. I made myself up a bunch of stage cable that got used, 6 nights a week, for 7 years. I still have and use them and not a single one has had any issue after being trod on for so many years.

I still have some instrument cables and a few short patch cables and some mic cables. What I don't have is a long TRS to XLR or TRS--->TRS so I need to order one. That's what Taylor recommends to use for instrument---->Amp for the ES system for best results. Some of the cables I have are old and beat-up so I figure I might as well replace a couple of them while I'm at it.
