ABECK
Any good suggestions for some good Hammond heavy funk artists to listen to? I'm a fan of Soulive and have found some other interesting stuff on Spotify like The Greyboy Allstars. I was just wondering what other people like in this vein. MAJUSCULE
Are you looking for newer stuff? A few obvious choices would be The Meters, The Neville Brothers and Tower of Power. Neal Evans of Soulive also plays in Lettuce. Eric Website Gear page
Morizzle
Not pure funk, but Medeski, Martin & Wood feature a lot of Hammond organ playing. It's not a clone, it's a Suzuki.

RedKey
Robert Walter, Wil Blades, & Neal Evans are my current younger favorites for Soul Jazz/Funk. If you use Pandora, make a channel using the artist "Stanton Moore" (My favorite drummer). Pandora will spit out non-stop funk/soul jazz Hammond goodness. mate stubb
I'm rehearsing a Hammond funk band right now. On the menu are the usual suspects: MMW MMWS John Scofield (with and without MMW) Galactic Soulive Larry Goldings Stanton Moore Action Figure Party Robben Ford etc. Moe --- "I keep wanting to like it's sound, but every demo seems to demonstrate that it has the earth-shaking punch and peerless sonics of the Roland Gaia. George88
The latest Medeski Martin & Wood with John Scofield is great. It's a live recording and Medeski is on fire. Billy Preston, Larry Goldings, the Meters and Dr. Lonnie Smith are a must.

frogmonkey
Neal Evans of Soulive also plays in Lettuce. I never paid much attention to Lettuce until fairly recently when a bandmate played a CD for me on the way to a gig. I thought they would be watered down hippy-jam-band "funk"-- I was wrong! They deliver the goods! They have a really killer, nuanced pocket/ time-feel!

I'm a fan of Soulive and have found some other interesting stuff on Spotify like The Greyboy Allstars. I was just wondering what other people like in this vein. I picked up on Lettuce when listening to WWOZ.org online (New Orleans radio). Highly recommended for picking up new bands with good keys that do funk. The website publishes the playlists (they are about 5 minutes behind the tracks if you miss the DJs intro or outro). It's very easy to record the stream, flip through the playlist, then create a Spotify playlist, etc

CEB
For the times it does not have to be Hammond heavy ..... in your spare time and don't happened to be familar with the follwing records the YouTube some of this stuff below and check it out for the grins. The snap you can get out of clavs and synths make them great for funk. Funk of Ages - Bernie Worrell All the Woo in the World - Bernie Worrell There is a ton of good stuff in the whole Paraliment / Funkadelic / P-Funk catalog. PS Bootsy's solo albums also. mynameisdanno
Maceo Parker and Larry Goldings have already been mentioned, but if you don't have Maceo's "Life on Planet Groove" record (with Larry on Hammond), definitely pick it up.
mahinty
There's just "a little pinch of organ" in King Curtis's Memphis Soul Stew - but it is joyously funky (and a good lesson in building a groove). [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkF64gY6Wgc Hadn't heard of Lettuce, but glad I have now. Very funky. Will seek out more. I haven't heard much of them, but these guys from the UK seem to have a few chops: [video:youtube] Of course, you can't really go wrong with The Meters, Richard "Groove" Holmes, and the others already mentioned My blog Nord Electro 2 | microKorg | Casiotone MT-65 | Hammond XB-2 | Korg Electribe-R ER-

Theo Verelst
I thought of swampdogg. The North Sea jazz example ("Total Destruction of your Mind") caught my attention and has funky (and bluesy) Hammond-type keyboards. Jimmy Smith is Hammond heavy and funky, I'm sure I have more than a few Dr John examples, too. There's a good funky enough example of "Voodoo Child" (Hendrix) with Hammond organ I could look up which album, but that's probably not the direction of the OP.
