Stevesie
Hi folks. I have recently purchased a Yamaha NP31. While the piano sound is actually pretty decent for an entry level keyboard, mine has an odd sound that I'm not sure is normal. I was hoping someone here who has access to an NP31(or NP30) might see if theirs has the same sound. When you play some keys singly with the volume anywhere above 3/4, F4 and G4 are two of the worst, the sustain/decay part of the sample has a strange sound that is quite distracting. It's like a "whirly tube" playing in reverse at a low level. It's stereo too and the panning of this sound between speakers makes it more obvious. Is this normal for this piano? I'm working on a link to an mp3 the sound. Any help is much appreciated. Stevesie.
Stevesie
Here's a link to a short mp3 of the sound, click the download option. Don't worry, not a virus! https://rapidshare.com/files/2110135315/np31.mp3 Thanks :-)
MoodyBluesKeys
Welcome to the forum. I don't have any experience with the model, but note that it is powered by 6 AA batteries. Just wondering if the distortion happens even with fresh batteries (or being run by an AC adaptor). Dgas
I checked an NP31 I have in my shop & yes, I hear what you characterize as reverse whirlwind starting with F4 & above; same as your mp3. I am using a power supply, not batteries. I hear it with internal speakers & headphones.
Stevesie
Thanks so much for the replies. I'm surprised to hear that it's a normal part of this model's sound, and that out of all the reviews on the internet it seems no one else has noticed it! It's really obvious to me, and quite distracting. I wonder if the P95 etc also have this sound in the background.... Thanks again.
Stevesie
Just a follow up in case anyone searches this thread some day, a very helpful Yamaha support checked out the sound file and say it is not normal and that the one they have there does not have this issue. Bad batch, perhaps? Cheers.
