Dr 5ives
Hello There Have been very interested in the Neo Ventilator. The question is for those who've used one, Does the Ventilator provide a decent tube recreation, or do you feel that a tube pre-amp is also needed? I prefer the driven "purple" sound and the vent's price tag is a big consideration using a VK-8 through (what's left of) a Motion Sound KBR-3D (upper horn shot, stereo speakers just about gone) Thanks for your time D Veni Vidi Vici Vice Versa
MuzikTeechur
I guess "decent" is in the ear of the listener. The "drive" on the Ventilator doesn't distort the sound in the way that the "tube overdrive" does on my XK3c, which is quite excessive in my opinion, but different strokes... You should probably try one - that's the only way to find out for sure if you'd like it. Where do you live? Perhaps you're close to one of our forumites who have one? Mr. Nightime
I'm plugging a Hammond XB-2 though mine. I've got the drive on the Vent set to 1 o'clock. If I set the modwheel (overdrive) on the Hammond all the way up, I get that really nice distortion I'm looking for. Much sweeter distortion than my Pro 3 ever had "In the beginning, Adam had the blues, 'cause he was lonesome. So God helped him and created woman. Now everybody's got the blues." Jaime Chimuelo
I use the XITE-1 B2003 w/o the Rotary ( sucks ), and used the Pro3tx and the Barbetta 41 Sub. Sounded pretty decent as I also have the Overdrive from the B2003.Got the Ventillator and love the control over distortion and Overdrive I have in realtime. But the best treat is the Crossover I use that goes into 4 mono channels. The HP/LP filters dial in the tonewheels exactly how I like them, and it really does sound better than the Pro3tx. Haven't used a real B3/147 for about 8 years, but I can get the same sounds with more control, better Percussion control and ganged drawbar combos on an expression pedal where I just stomp it down or pull it back, as the CC2x2 DSP plugs control each drawbars speed, curve source and destination positions per preset. On an 88 note controller I get both manuals, and great control over all aspects. Ventillator is just more proof of DSPs quality. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/337/vent8004way.png/ Magnus C350 and a TV Dinner Tray Stand http://soundcloud.com/you/sets

I use the Vent with my Nord Electro 2 and now my Nord Stage 2 without any preamp. I dial in a little bit of overdrive on the Nord itself, and then pump up the distortion on the Vent if I wanna get dirty! A.J. John Tweed
Having finally accepted that the overdrive on my SK1 is never going to sound as good as the tube preamp in my XK3, and while I procrastinate on the decision to buy a Ventilator, I've been using an SMPro TB101 tube preamp to warm things up. And boy does it work well. The percussion comes alive, and the organ goes from a warm, fat purr to spitting and snarling on command. It does similarly nice things the electric pianos and clavs. Now I normally use a Motion Sound Pro3x in conjunction with a Behringer KX3000 - this gives me moving air with organ, and mono with pianos, my preferences in both cases. But lately I've been doing some outdoor gigs where a small and easy-to-move rig is necessary. The SK1 is perfect for this - I use left hand organ bass and the external voices for pianos and wurlis as needed. I also leave the Pro3x at home and run the organ with its internal Leslie into the preamp. Conventional wisdom would suggest that this is not going to sound right, it's supposed to be preamp first, then leslie. But if you think of it as a clean organ sound miked up with condensers and tube preamps, then, why not? I'm pretty sure there's a vent in my future - the SK1 and a vent will be perfect for some out-of-town gigs I'll be flying to later in the year (if they come off), and I'd be concerned relying on the TB101 under those circumstances, since it's meant to live in a studio. Would it be feasible to use the vent just for its overdrive, with the rotors in the stopped position and going thru the Pro3x. I'm not concerned whether or not it sounds exactly like anything else on the planet, just so long as i sounds good. Musicale
Is the Vent not a pre-amp ? Regards,

John It's likely that the cabinet simulation on the Vent and the comb filter response of the rotor sim will not be a good tone match to your MS. I would not expect it to sound as bad as two electronic sims stacked, but you would just have to try it.
