jeremy c
Nico Assumpção was a great Brazilian bassist who died in the year 2001 at the age of 47. I loved his playing and am planning on going back and finding more. As a studio musician in Brazil, he played on over 400 albums. He recorded the first album bass solo album in his native country. He is on albums by many Brazilian artists: his credits look like a who's-who of Brazilian music. I was fortunate to hear him play with Milton Nascimento. In addition, he also played with many big name jazz artists, including Kenny Barron, Billy Cobham, Larry Coryell, Joe Diorio, Eliane Elias, Ronnie Foster, Frank Gambale, Joe Henderson, Lee Konitz, Michel Legrand, Harvey Mason, Pat Metheny, Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Ernie Watts, Sadao Watanabe and Phil Woods. Great sound, great groove, great solos, what's not to like? Maybe if Jaco was born in Brazil, he might have sounded like this. Enjoy! The great composer Dori Caymmi is the vocalist.
