He's a multiple threat musical giant. Great singer, keyboard player, songwriter, and a pretty fine guitarist. His career has an astounding pedigree. Still going strong too. For all I know,he may also be an accomplished nuclear physicist. One of my heroes. Even as a kid,he was a big influence on a young Gary Wright as well as countless others. Long live Steve Winwood.

If I remember this correctly, his Arc of a Diver album was written & recorded by him in his basement. I think he played all the instruments including drums. It was his "comeback" album. At least I think it was on vinyl, so I can call it an album. He had a solo album previous to this that didn't sell well, so he did this all himself. I don't remember anyone else of note playing all the instruments on an album other than Stevie Wonder at this time (Early Eighties). Always liked his material.

yes, he is one of the best all around musicians in rock. His voice alone separates him from the rest.

Guitar solos last 30 seconds, the bass line lasts for the whole song.

So...no Leslie, direct to guitar amps?

Yup. He's using one of the Vibrato Celeste settings on the M-102 for animation. He still sounds great, and that voice...he's still an amazing singer. He "gets" soul music, yes he does.

Arc of the Diver is a wicked album. When I saw him he had a C-3 case in 1991 and word had it that it was a Voce module underneath? Not sure how true that was?

It's funny, we tend to tie the word "album" to something like vinyl or CD, but anything issued as a collection can be called an album, even digital only.

Wikipedia defines it like this.

An album is a collection of recordings, released as a single package on gramophone record, cassette, compact disc, or via digital distribution. The word derives from the Latin word for list.[1]

Today, with the vinyl record no longer being used as the primary form of distribution, the term "album" can still be applied to any sound recording collection, such as those on compact disc, MiniDisc, Compact audio cassette, and digital or MP3 albums. Cover art is also considered an integral part of the album. Many albums also come with liner notes and inserts giving background information or analysis of the recording, reprinted lyrics, images of the performers, or additional artwork and text. These are now often found in the form of CD booklets.

c : one or more recordings (as on tape or disc) produced as a single unit

Apple dictionary

2 a collection of recordings, on CD, record, or cassette, that are issued as a single item.

That one leaves out the digital/online versions, but I think that's simply because someone needs to update it.

Anyway, back to the master...

I remember him being featured on the cover of Keyboard (then CK?) when Arc of a Diver came out. He used a Multimoog for that sax-like lead on "When you See a Chance". Like me, he had bought into the marketing hype that the Multi was supposed to replace the Mini.

He made his own tape loops for the tambourine pattern on that song.... so in addition to being a killer singer / multi-instrumentalist / songwriter, he's also a geek! :thu:

I thought this was the classic Prophet 5 patch?

I'm pretty sure the Sax patch on "When you see a chance" and other tunes is Prophet 5.

Nope, it's a Multimoog. When i get home I'll pull up the issue & quote it. I remember it well because the Multimoog was my 1st synth (that I still own today).

His phrazing is simple and beautiful at the same time. He's one of the few hammond players in the 60 that he did not try to imitate Jimmy Smith.. and this voice! So much character in such a young age
