I would never switch one out for a P bass, but I'd never use one as a replacement for a more modern instrument. wraub
So... You are saying that if you had one on a Pbass, you'd probably leave it, but you wouldn't put one on a bass with a newer design already installed. Correct? Anyone else? Thanks. On a p-bass it's just classic looking and the screw has the added bennefit of resetting the string spacing on the fly without modifying the bridge. Only disadvantages are the same as the non-screw version of the fender bridge, low mass if sustain is your thing, and the set screws stick up and dig into palms. On a new non Fender style bass I would rather go with a modern style bridge. Lydian mode? jeremy c
I had a bass with one of those bridges (my Jaguar) and it didn't seem to react differently than other Fenders with the typical bridge without the grooves. Rocky McDougall
There were two models. One had coarser threads than the other and would hold the strings in position better.
