What does a 50-year-old band look like?

In light of the recent spate of nostalgia-tinged threads, I submit for your consideration a recent NY Times article, Jubilees and Living Histories (includes a Bo Diddley reference, Wally):

"This is what a 50-year old band looks like: a dynastic machine, in some cases more symbolic than real, producing new material from the present and the past simultaneously, collaborative and flexible, an entity much bigger than its music; a well of history and a blank slate for representing the ideals of the culture. Well see much more of this. In the future plenty of new bands will be willing to keep standing when they turn 50. But whether anyone wants to prop them up may depend on whether other years are as propititious for a band to be born in as 1962."

Los Lobos and Tower of Power appear to be bands with half-century staying power. Any others come to mind?

Wiki says:

The Rolling Stones are an English rock band, formed in London in April 1962 by Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), and Keith Richards (guitar, vocals).

That's a pretty darned flattering picture, for a bunch of old farts. Besides, they're more like a 60-year-old band, no? ;)

I think they're all right around 62-68(ish) and they all can keep a pretty good groove. To me, the Best of the Best! Thank you for the picture! I love it! There are a lot of hard years in that picture. I admire them for keeping their health and especially Jagger rocking the stage like the snot-nosed kid he used to be.

Our drummer, guitar player and I have been together since 1975. 'The New Guy' came on-board in 1983. He's still proving himself.

Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson still refer to Neil Peart as "the new guy."

I started jamming with our drummer 32 years ago (1980) when I was 16. I played guitar at the time. Another guitar player joined us 3 years later and I switched to bass. The 3 of us are still together.

The Moody Blues are celebrating 45 years since "Days Of Future Passed." However, the MBs were started several years earlier with Denny Laine on guitar, and "Go Now" as a top ten hit. After the Stones, the Moodies are the longest surviving British band still touring, though the Who are probably in there somewhere.
