orangefunk
Tried one out in the shop a couple of weeks ago. Armed with some new information about how to navigate the presets and drums I went down today and could not resist... Fabulous keyboard... I got the 61 and its triggering nicely from my Roland RD700GX. I have been looking at getting a workstation multi engine board which I can take out on gigs and compose on without the need for another computer. The Kronos fits the bill... I also got some KRK Rokit RP6G2 monitors while I was at it. I have the ADAM A7 in a shared studio room but for home I hope the KRKs suffice. Will post more as I discover more about the board. But I guess most has been said already by others...

Dave Bryce
I just got one as well - replaced my M3 with it. Also a 61. Congrats, brother O-funk! dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <==
zephonic
Congrats! The 61 is the one to get. I played both of em at length yesterday in our local GC, and I liked the 61 much better than the 88, which felt sluggish and disconnected. Maybe there was something wrong with it. gear list.pdf
Dave Ferris
Congrats Neil. There seems to be a pattern developing here with the 61 over 73/88 RH3... 2005 NY Steinway D https://soundcloud.com/dave-ferris

orangefunk
Congrats Neil. There seems to be a pattern developing here with the 61 over 73/88 RH3... Yeah I was thinking of gigging with this and if a weighted action is required I figure I'd use the RD700. Out of the box it plays okay with the RD700GX (maybe requires some tweaks to the highest velocity layer), although I have to confess I don't find the piano a big step up from the Roland if any... however it is certainly Korgs best up to now (pretty sure the SV-1 will go now, but then again it is a handy board to have...). orangefunk
What are you guys primarily using it for? Synth, Organ, top board? Just Curious For me its an all rounder... I actually don't mind playing piano on the 61 because its very expressive... the rhodes seems to play fabulous from the 61.. even better than triggering it from my RD700GX. I wanted to create combis and backing tracks for an ambient band I am working on... I figured it would be good to get the Kronos to do all the stuff I would normally use a laptop for, I can see some combis are already set up for the Karma buttons to trigger different parts Ableton-style for instance... will see if it works out.... burningbusch
Congrats man. Love my Kronos. I originally had the 73 on order but because of the severe backorder I got the 61 (but with an option to return it for the 73 when it came available). Finally got the 73 in October but it had the double strike issue so I got the 61 back. Now that there's a fix for the weighted keys I will likely get the 73 with the new keybed (waiting for the replacements to come in). Just picked up the Austrian grand which I like. Symphonic/string libraries should be here shortly. I don't know if you're on OS 1.5 with the extra RAM, but that's VERY nice. BTW, I think the new black 73 SV-1, assuming it has the new action, is going to be VERY popular given the $1499 price tag. Busch.
Dave Bryce
What are you guys primarily using it for? Synth, Organ, top board? Synths, organ, strings, atmosphere. Some sample playback. Using it in an "L" as a right hand board, CP5 below PC3 to the left. Kronos MIDI'd to the CP5. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y172/davebryce/photo-2.jpg dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <==

allan_evett
What are you guys primarily using it for? Synth, Organ, top board? Just Curious I have an 88. Use it for Piano, Rhodes and Wurlie, clavs, layers, and synth tones. Normally use it bottom tier, with a Motif XF topside. With all of the synth goodness in the XF, and some of the gargantuan Combi layers in the Kronos, the 80's stuff I get to cover is fun.... stevie b
Sounds like lots of uses. Kind of the swiss army knife it was intended to be. Is the new keybed supposed to be a lighter synth action. I'm in the market for a top board, 73 or 76 keys, with synth action and sounds, organ, FX/ Ambience, and sample playback. Also looking for the single board option for pick gigs or jams. The only other real contender is the Stage Compact. http://www.suggestingrhythm.com

The Kronos comes in three varieties, 61 semi-weighted synth, 73 and 88 weighted hammer action. There have been issues with the weighted action for some people and Korg has a fix they're rolling out. That's what I was referring to above. Busch.
burningbusch
I don't know if any of you are using the Ventilator with the Kronos, but one cool thing you can do is to route the output of the Vent back into the audio ins on the Kronos. So when you pull up your organ preset that uses the Vent, it feels like it's all part of the K. No need for external mixer. Very slick Busch. Analogaddict
I discovered yesterday that I can use it as a soundcard for my Mac..! If I set the usb in global to "L/R" and the Mac output to "Kronos", I'm good to go. I can even run my Receptor through the Kronos via Logic (or similar). Very handy! Markyboard
Congrats to both you guys - I was seriously considering a 61 until I came up with an alternate solution from an ergonomic perspective. But it really is an inspiring board and fun to play. That is a slick set up Orangefunk So Dave is this your live set up, home studio or both? I suspect this is becoming the digital/acoustic room and the analog circle of doom is still in tact in the back room.
