orangefunk
Why didn't you post the clip of England Dan & John Ford Coley? :idk Love that tune! Feel free to post Actually I just watched the DVD of the whole show (inc the 70s commercials and quite frankly terrible comedy)... they did quite a few songs. Piano guy had some chops... Josh Paxton
Nice stuff! I've only recently become aware of the Don Kirschner's Rock Concert show, when I saw a clip of Dr. John's band with James Booker on organ (for a full-on New Orleans keyboard nerdgasm). Seems like the show had some quality acts. It'll be interesting to see what makes it onto the DVD set.

analogholic
Thanks a lot !!! Eventhough Hancock was gravitating towards his commersial period, it still grooves and the playing is great as always. All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. Arthur Schopenhauer
16251
That group of musicians were speaking as one. The highest order of listening and taste. Paul Jackson is killing it. analogholic
Paul Jackson is killing it. Yeah! He´s gotta be the funkiest bassplayer ever! Sometimes he starts a line "in the middle of nowhere" and ends up "in the middle of nowhere"...Check out "Thrust" IIRC he was the one teaching Hancock how to funk... Joe Muscara
Thanks for posting this. I vaguely remember the title "Don Kirschner's Rock Concert" from when I was a kid, but I have no idea if I saw the show. I doubt my dad would have wanted to sit through it. They ought to have these guys play on American Idol. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! orangefunk
It's amazing how this stuff ever got on TV to be honest. Certainly in today's climate there is no chance unless you are watching one of the arty channels in Europe (and even those seem on the decline now...)... Jazz+
What is that tune called? It's like early smooth jazz, Herbie renders a really nice and relaxed solo. Reminds me of Spyro Gyra... I think these songs are from the Man-Child album. The last song, as orangefunk mentioned earlier in the thread, is called "Hang Up Your Hang Ups." 16251
The album is Secrets and all the songs are from it. The first song is Gentle Thoughts. The second is Doin it (obviously from Herbie's vocals*. The last one is maybe Swamp Rat; it seems like a jam. I had this album since it came out and Gentle Thoughts and a very cool version of Cantelope Island were my favorites. It always gets a play every so often.
