clpete
I had Carpal Tunnel surgery on my right hand on Monday and have the left one scheduled for the middle of February. This shut the band down as they refused to play with out keyboards. I told them to play without me but a lot of the songs we play need keys. We had to cancel some gigs because I moved the surgery back for some carpentry work. We do have a gig scheduled for 5 weeks after the left hand surgery. Hopefully I will be ready to play. What Im wondering is for those who have had it done, how long did it take to be back playing? We play for free. We get paid to set up and tear down. clpete
Thanks everyone. The doctor said that Ill be able to use my hands after about 4 weeks, but I dont think that means Ill be playing up to speed. I have almost 10 weeks between the right hand surgery and about 5 weeks after the left before the next gig. Hopefully that will be long enough. We play for free. We get paid to set up and tear down. marino
Just as a point of reference, a double bass player I know started playing (carefully) about two weeks after the operation, and a month later he was back at full steam. I think every case is different, though.
Delaware Dave
I subbed for a keyboard player in a Dead Band. The original keyboard player who was about 23 years old had carpal tunnel and had both wrists operated on at the same time. It took him about 1 year to return to the band. My sister in law's husband also had it done (he's a truck driver) and he took about 9 months before he could return to driving the truck. Mine have been bothering me for a few years now so eventually something will need to be done. Exercises of that area have actually helped to some degree. 57 Hammond B3; 69 Hammond L100P; 68 Leslie 122; Kurzweil PC3; M-Audio Code 61; Voce V5+; Neo Vent; EV ELX112P; GSI Gemini & Burn Delaware Dave Exit93band
