dazzjazz
Hi all, Here's a clip from a student recital at Australian Institute of Music, where I teach. It's a Berklee-like institution of about 1000 students in Sydney.Band is all students apart from myself and the trumpet player. I was given about a week or so to cop Ted Baker's beautiful intro to "Josie" from the Plush Jazz-Rock DVD. Hope you like it. I find the Yamaha Bright Grand ticks many boxes for me. Much better than any other piano in the Nord library. Darren [video:youtube] www.dazzjazz.com PhD in Jazz Organ Improvisation. Lord_Nord
Very well played! I think it sounds a little clunky (at least for my tastes) for this type of intro, but probably sits well in the mix with a rock band. Reminds me of Kurzweil piano sounds for some reason. Did you use a lot of reverb or something? A.J. Blues Manager and Keyboardist The Tash Brothers Band www.myspace.com/TheTashBrothersBand
dazzjazz
Can't remember how I set the reverb on this one. Don't think it was over the top. Jazzwee
That's a really nice sound. I'm noticing I switch between Bright Grand and Studio Grand 2 with SG2 being darker. Amplified like that, I really like the fullness of the sound. And really nice playing! mikecorbett
Great playing, awesome intro, and enjoyed the whole band and song. Nit picking I have to say that while that piano sound is better than the others Nord offer it still sounds a touch "forced". Is the sound were hearing coming from the main PA speakers? I presume so. The high end sounds a bit all opver the place on this recording anyhow, cymbals are very crispy. Q: How does that piano sound compare to your CP33? Similar I imagine? Similar I imagine? hi Mike, know what you mean by 'forced' - I suspect that when the pianos are sampled they're played by a machine rather than human with a good touch. I think it's just through the PA and into the camera mic. As for a comparison with the CP33, the Nord makes you coax sounds out of it, much like an acoustic. The CP is more homogenised. But the Yamaha action is better. I am enjoying the NS2 a lot. Did you read my review I posted here? Darren www.dazzjazz.com PhD in Jazz Organ Improvisation. Musicale
Thats nice, Would have liked to hear the piano on a acoustic - I think Marian Mc Partland on the Steely Dan Piano Jazz show used an acoustic. But stellar performance. 1000 students in school, playing like that, and then listen to current POP. Makes you wonder what's goin' on... One of my favorites, would also be nice to hear it on a good stereo... Regards,Musicale
