Is it possible to enable tapatalk on the forums?

I didn't know anything about tapatalk so I looked at their web site. It appears that there is not currently support for the UBB.threads package that is used for this forum. Looks like it might be available in the future, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I think they (UBB) will have it by the end of this year (2012).

Two other forums I visit hate Tapatalk and other programs that strip ads and the ad revenue. I've seen Mods install it and then turn it off over ad revenue.

I also read the nord user forum with tapatalk. I really like it. Much easier with an iphone.

There was a discussion some of us had with Mr. Quinn a while back about this, but I guess it got purged (some forum areas delete old threads after a while).

IIRC, they were looking at some things that might help this, including switching forum software. But, they know even updating forum software is a PITA, much less switching it, so they are treading cautiously.

Personally, I think it wouldn't be terribly hard for a web developer to write something that reformats the content of the forum for an iPhone. I've thought about doing it, but thinking about parsing all that HTML makes my head spin. I'd rather spend my time practicing (or writing posts! ).

You do it with stylesheets, based on browser detection. It is straightforward enough if you have full control over the html, but can be close to impossible if you have a content management system standing in the way.

OTOH, that other forum completely lost its vibe and half its clientele after a wholesale software "upgrade" that had it broken for weeks. I would hate to see that here.

Yeah, Moe, that's what I was thinking. One could go crazy and parse what's output here and reassemble it for different devices, but that's a project to say the least. And, when something changes, you have to adapt.

What happened to the other forum was exactly what I was talking about.

Theoretically, if one had direct access to the database that feeds. Content, you could do browser detection and load an alternate site. Hit my band site with a mobile phone and you'll see a scaled back simplified mobile version. I use server side includes o determine which content gets delivered (the Data layer is the same, just the HTML is different). Of course XML with different XSLT depending on browser would be another way. But the way I do it is easy to maintain. I have sort of a wrapper and then differen pages for mobile vs classic.
